Arc Equine unit reviews please?

What are people’s experience (equine or human) with Arc Equine (microcurrent therapy) please?
I’m considering buying a unit, I’ve found a lot of positive reviews, but one negative from a poster on a british forum who seems convinced it caused her horse a splint.

Thank you :).

My coworker has been using it on her horse with a large sarcoid and swears it’s working to remove it. Says it is starting to crack and fall off (I saw a pic but I don’t know what it looked like right before she started using it). She has 4 more weeks to go (you have to use the thing 3 hours a day for more than a month I guess?). Usually I am really skeptical about things like this so it would be interesting to hear from anyone else. I can post update about my coworker’s horse in a month!

Thank you TenaciousMelody! Yes please keep us posted.
I agree I’d love to read more US reviews.
The breeder of one of my previous horses overseas swears by it, but really this thing is lacking all scientific proof or clinical validity.
It isn’t overly pricey, like $500, so I’m not worried about buying it, but I am concerned about the possibility it doing harm.
In the human world, some say be careful.

I bought a human microcurrent and milliamp unit that my chiro vet recommended to me. Much cheaper and works well for the body parts she wants me to target. I started a thread on here about it and got some responses about microcurrent in general.

Thank you IPEsq, I’ll go in search of your thread :).

So my coworker had a mishap with the unit and the attaching strap was broken (which had connectivity wires) when her horse got loose. It might take a while longer now!

Sorry to hear that TenaciousMeloday.
The fact the unit needs to stay on the leg for so long, seems a bit cumbersome to me. They seem to recommend up to 6hrs a day.

So here is an update:

Coworker is still convinced that it is working for the sarcoid. She said she used it on the first setting for a little too long by accident, but when she switched to the second setting that is when she noticed the sarcoid starting to fall off. Half of it fell off last week and she was very excited. I agree that putting the unit on for 3+ hours is a long time. I have my horse at home and could probably manage it for most days, but if I was still boarding her, it would be impossible!

Thanks for the update TenaciousMelody!
That sounds good that it appears to be working.
I haven’t ordered one (yet), I’m quite undecided about it, lol.

Hi Lieslot, was wondering if you’ve ordered an arc equine yet and if you can report back on your experience using it? I’m looking to get one for general age-related issues to try and help keep my old girl as comfortable as possible. $500 doesn’t seem a lot if it will help her with pains and stiffness and improve her general quality of life. Case studies on their website look good, but would be nice to get some more feedback on the forum.

Hi smithyjen, yes I ordered one, actually it arrived yesterday, I plan to use it for the first time tonight.
It’s interesting, seems it’s a 6 wk suggested program, where you start with pain relief and then move thru the different programs to tissue regeneration.
The breeder of one of my horses swears by it Fingers crossed. I will report back!

Any first impressions? I’m looking into one for my horses!

Hi All! Just wanted to share my experience with ArcEquine. I got one in May 2018, my mare had a sarcoid and she’s had it for all 3 years I’ve owned her. I believe she had it for at least 2 years before that too, we tried multiple topical treatments and experimental treatments recommended by my vet with no luck. I started putting the arc equine on and it fell off in 2 weeks. Then it took about 6 weeks to fully scab over. It is now growing hair where the sarcoid used to be. ALSO I event, and had to get her hocks injected every 6 months, after using the arcequine for 2 months, i had the vet out to do her 6 month eval on her hocks/stifles/back etc, and he said no injections necessary, she’d looked the best he’d seen her.

I do think its possible to injure your horse by putting the velcro on too tight. As with any boots that are strapped on too tight I think that can cause injury. I have not had that happen but I think its possible, also the velcro strap is not reliable, mine started to work intermittently after 6 months, i contacted the company about this and they told me that part is not under warranty as its considered a disposable item and i would have to just buy a new strap. Boo on them, granted the straps are about $30 but i still thought that was awful cheap of them.

I’m quite happy with it too, horse is more comfortable. I noticed an improvement after about 3 weeks of daily use.
I did the 6 weeks program as suggested and now he only wears it 3 times a week.
I never do the velcro strap up tight, since I put a bandage on top of it to keep it secure.

What is this product I may be interested in trying it!

Bumping up this old thread to see if there are any new experiences with this.

Someone was trying my sales horse and got into a wreck over a jump. Rider was fine but mare’s knees were pretty severely gouged up. I happened to be visiting my saddle fitter a week after the accident and she tossed one of these my way. After reading up on it, I decided that it might help and wouldn’t hurt, so I’ve been alternating daily between her hind legs on advice from the company not to use it on the injured legs. It could be coincidence, but she had an astonishing amount of healing in the wounds over 48 hours. She is on antibiotics and I’m wrapping the legs with Manuka honey, which I started the day after the accident. I’m hoping she’ll leave her wraps on a for a few days this time, but also anxious to see how much more healing has occurred at the next wrap change!

The sarcoid story is what tipped me over the edge with this, as my other mare has a couple recurring sarcoids. I’ll be using this unit on her as soon as I’m done treating the injured horse.

I bought one for my PSD horse for after his PSD surgery (I bought him with it so I changed all the causes too). He bounced back so quickly I ended up not using it.

However, I recently sprained my calf and used it on myself. I am quite convinced it helped.

I bought one for my PSD horse and eventually sent it back. Im open to the possibility that it does something, but I just couldn’t shake the feeling that it’s snake oil. I didn’t notice anything on my horse, nor on myself when I used it. Combined with the fact that there is no real evidence that the device works, I just couldn’t bring myself to believe in it. I don’t doubt that the broader technology works, but there is no evidence that the Arc Equine itself does anything. The company eventually stopped replying to me when I kept asking about evidence for the device itself, so draw your own conclusions :woman_shrugging:
