For all my fellow not-average saddle owners, my saddle has a very forward and long flap. Are there show pads that are better shaped for a more forward flap or is it a lost cause it is a huge pet peeve when show pads don’t fit well and I am lost on this right now.
Wilkers makes CWD pads that come in various combinations of seat and flap sizes. That might work
EcoGold will make a custom pad for you. I had one done for a side saddle, which is definitely not a conventional shape!
Wilkers does any of their pads in custom measurements, you just have to order through a tack shop. CWD and some other manufacturers actually gave them the measurements for the flap configurations, and that worked well. My barn did a group order of custom measurements and it got all screwed up, but I would think a one-off order might fare better! http://wilkers.com/show-saddle-pads.html
I always order custom pads from Wilkers online. Even though it looks like all the custom ones are for CWD, what you need to do is select CWD and then after you put all your shipping info in, etc., there’s a box for comments. In the box, put your saddle brand and the specs (I just copy what’s stamped on the leather under the flap). You can make any special requests at that time as well (I always request an additional for the length of the spine).
Ogilvy used to customize hunter pads for different saddles (I received mine years ago, though, so I don’t know if that’s something they still offer).
@lintesia that’s great to know, it’s been a few years since I ordered mine and at that time you had to do it through a physical tack shop! Online is much easier!
Edited to add - I checked it out further and they have one style available online that you can customize, which is great, and if you want the other styles you can order them in custom sizes through a tack shop.
Yep, definitely Wilkers. That’s what I use for my Butet with a very forward flap.
