Are people still using USRider?

I’m debating whether to renew my AAA membership. It seems like on paper it makes more sense to just use USRider, but all of the (mostly good) posts and reviews I can find are several years old. Are people still using them and are you still happy?

I use both…AAA is much faster response when I have a car/truck issue. USRider does take much longer to respond when I have the trailer hooked up. I did drop USRider for a year when I was not trailering much. I was annoyed that they wanted a reactivation fee along with the membership so I didn’t rejoin right away.

What the freak is a reactivation fee? Darn. That is a great way to make people not want to use you.

There should be a discount for coming back, not an extra fee.

I still use it. My calls have usually been for stuck in the mud at home so response time wasn’t an issue. It was helpful the time my truck broke down when hauling. The put the truck on a flat bed and hitched the trailer to the back on the flat bed and dropped horse and trailer at home and then took the truck to the repair shop.

I left UsRider years ago after they left me stranded on the side of the road the third time.
I cancelled AAA way before that because they take forever and give all kinds of argument about trailers.
I joined Trailguard which is a little more expensive but I have found that you get what you pay for. They have been stellar over the years I have had them all over the country .
There’s no need to have more than one since they cover anything you’re driving .
Plus check with your auto insurance company they often have road service too, at least for regular vehicles.

I also switched from US Rider to Trailguard after service issues with US Rider.

Didn’t know there was an alternative to US Rider. They helped me a few times. Although the help was great, it took 3+ hours to get help to me. If there’s a more trustworthy alternative, I would be open to paying more. Has anyone in the tri-state (NJ, NY, CT, & PA) used Trailguard?

I’ve used them four or five times, and have been happy with their service every time. Once I was in the middle of nowhere Wyoming and the awning on my horse trailer started unfurling, wind was 80 mph, and there was no shoulder on I-80 so I had to wait for a ranch exit to get off, all the while watching the awning billowing in my side mirror. Once I got to a freeway underpass I called US Rider. They were going to be at least two hours to get to me and I made the decision to just cut the awning off with a box cutter, shove the fabric into the tack room of my trailer and deal with it all when I got home. I was really afraid the wind was going to rip the side of the horse trailer off, and I was hauling two horses at the time.

The US Rider rep stayed on the phone with me until I got it all sorted and was ready to head out again. Just having moral support who could call for help was very, well, Helpful. The other times were either dead batteries or flat tires.

I have used US rider for years and had mostly good experiences. Most recently, I had a flat tire in my car just a couple of miles from home. They had someone out from a local mechanic’s shop. There within 10 minutes, done in 5.

I’ve been happy with the service I have received from US Rider over the past few years. I think it’s going to depend on whereabouts in the country you are.

Now, fortunately, I’ve not had to use them in an emergency or with a loaded trailer, but they’ve shown up within reasonable time frames for both trailer and car issues.

I’ve used US Rider easily 5 times over the years and always a good experience.

Thanks, everybody! Planning to give them a try without AAA and see how it goes.

US Rider sent a predator who sexually harassed me, chain-smoked and actually FaceTimed while driving my truck on the flatbed and my trailer hitched behind. Thankfully I had someone rescue my horse from this nightmare before I waited 9 hours for them to show up. I reported the incident to US Rider and they said they conducted an investigation, severed the relationship with the service provider and even said he was fired. The last part was definitely not true, unsure about the other two claims. Oh, and this all cost me $1k for the pleasure.

Never again.

Oh my gosh, that sounds so scary. I am sorry you had to go through that.

I may be confused but I thought US Rider bought TrailGuard.
I have US Rider. Blew a tire on PA Turnpike near Harrisburg. They were there in less than 30 minutes. I had 2 horses on my 2+1. They did a great job swapping one of my spares in.
I had a flat tire, got the trailer to the home farm. I told them it wasn’t an emergency as I didn’t have horses on board. We arranged for wheel change the next day.
Neither time was I charged anything.
I chose to tip both people but I got the feeling that was a pleasant surprise, not expected.
Both DH and I have had flat tires with passenger cars. DH locked his keys in his car. There within a short period. (I was on a business trip so couldn’t bring him the spare key) US Rider and TrailGuard came out quickly. We had been with both before the buyout.

I think you’re correct, they did merge somehow in the not too distant past. I keep getting stuff from USR ( and have since I cancelled them because they were awful) offering me a free year if I come back. I won’t take USR even for free. I switched to Trailguard way before the merge or sale or whatever it was
