I grew up riding spots. Loved them. Lately I’ve been keeping my eye open for a nice Appaloosa to purchase, to use as a pony/ranch horse but I cannot seem to find anything of QUALITY. All I can find are farms that mass produce colorful horses with terrible conformation. I can’t see any of these being able to hold up to any sort of work.
I’d like to buy from and support a farm that strives to better their breed of choice. Is there such a thing in the Appy realm nowadays?

I have trouble getting accurate results on the search feature, and I hadn’t seen a thread like this before. As long as I get some answers, I really don’t care.
I know there are some Appy sport horse breeders who post here and can give you good info, but you could start here: Foundation Appaloosa There is an Appaloosa Sport Horse Association, but the website is not very helpful for finding breeders. Doing a web search for “Appaloosa Sport Horse” will bring up a bunch of breeder sites. 
The search feature REALLY nosedived when they changed the format!! as in they totally blew it.

YES!!! My almost 2 year old is getting to be quite phenomenal He’s from www.rugbycreeksporthorses.com . Confetti farms also has some great sport appies. You just have to look!! A friend sent me a link to a really nice TB/App on dream horse the other day too…

There is this FB group that frequently has nice horses for sale focusing on the Wap Spot lines.
The Facebook page that you mentioned is for Wap’s Spot 2 bred horses, not Wap Spotted. Two different programs. If someone is looking to sell a horse from the JG Appaloosas program or from that breeding stock, it is usually listed there.

OP don’t get discouraged, they are out there!!
There are several breeders that are producing very athletic and versatile babies.
My advice is to search a ton on the big sites (dreamhorse and equine), but also on sites like horse clicks. That’s actually where I found my most recent Appaloosa. She has turned out to be a nicer (and loudly colored) horse than I ever could have imagined buying on my meager college student budget.
I also second searching “Appaloosa Sport Horses” in a search engine. It should give you a good idea of sport breeders, but also different bloodlines to research.
I’m not sure where you are located, but also don’t be discouraged with horses located a good distance away. When you search online, definitely ask for more pictures and videos on horses that you’re interested in. Some shippers quotes are extremely reasonable. My mare was located a little over 600 miles away and shipping wasn’t nearly as much as I expected. (Definitely recommend Tack Tavern Twining!)
Also, I recommend contacting breeders even if their disciplines don’t match your own. You never know who may have what works for you. There are quite a few Appy owners on here, look at which horses you like, and ask about their bloodlines.
I also really like the JG Waps and recommend looking at Wap Spot, Waps Rolls Royce, and Waps Applause offspring.
I just seen a really nice looking App on dreamhorse for stud, can’t think of his name, but he had one picture that looked awesome for dressage, he is however western focused I believe. But, not being into Apps per se, he drew my eye!! I’ll try to find him, if it’s not against the rules…

I’ve often wondered the same thing but do know that they’re out there, just hard to find (although some great links have been posted!). Here’s a related question, what (if any) WB stallions have consistantly produced QUALITY sport horses when bred to Apps? I’ve seen app crosses that I’ve loved and others that are of average quality (but high priced because they are sired by a WB!). Does a particular breed or bloodline (in the case of most WBs since they’re a registry and not an actual breed) cross better? I would think that Trakhaners in general would be a good cross since they have a high percentage of TB and Arab in their breeding (that and I LOVE Traks!). The most consistantly “good” cross I’ve seen have been TBs but they seem to be consistantly good, not exceptional. I love the JG Appaloosas, I don’t think I’ve ever heared ANYONE say anything bad about them, and they have temperaments to die for but have any competed above mid-level eventing?

For bigger hunter types…Wap Spotted lines. For smaller all around types I know someone in KY that breeds race Appys that are TBx that are nice riding horses. We traded one of our foals for one of her Appys for a polo pony for Mike…she has worked out real well.
Davey Farm Sport Horses has a daughter of Waps Rolls Royce bred to Joshua (Oldenburg/ISR approved, son of Roemer) due to foal in a month. This is expected to be an excellant cross.
There is a daughter of Waps Applause eventing Novice level. There has also been some youngsters doing some lower level eventing in the past few years. I am not sure the highest level any of the JG Waps have done.
This breeder breeds mainly hunter type Apps (not dressage or jumpers). They are lovely. They do have a lot of TB and they are not loud colored, so if you are a purist, maybe not for you.
Because you said you wanted a ranch horse, she also has a couple of 2012 babies left that she bred for western or all around. She is a very purpose-bred breeder, and knows exactly what she is breeding for, so if she says hunter or western or all-around, that is what it will be good at.

I have a retired show gelding by All Hands on Zip (Hopes Creek Ranch) that I truly love - one of the coolest horses ever! Won at the worlds in Hunter Under Saddle and placed well in Western Pleasure and the pattern classes. At home, we won at hunter shows, barrel raced a little, and had a blast out on the trails. I never tried dressage, but he was excellent at Tempi changes.
They successfully breed for competitive ApHC horses, but they are also excellent sport prospects as well.
Yes! All Hands on Zip! That is the breeder I posted two posts above. I have two of his babies. So so easy, both under saddle now. Both pretty and pretty movers too.
