Hey, I’m planning on going to my first show in a few weeks and I’m wondering if you can do back to back classes 3 times in a row? Thanks
Should be OK, unless you’re not allowed to be in the class for other reasons (like a walk/trot class followed by a walk/trot/canter class). But especially at smaller shows, it’s not uncommon to pretty much have the same groups of riders in and out of the ring for several classes in a row.
No rules, but some judges do not want to juggle 3 cards so the show may not open 3 classes at the judge’s request (but most judges can and do manage 3 open cards)
as others have said, three back-to-back classes (verify it’s single classes, not three divisions) isn’t a problem as long as you meet the eligibility criteria.
That being said, depending on the level of effort required, you may want to avoid doing all of those classes to spare your horse, especially if you live in the majority of the country where it’s very hot and humid. If your classes are 2x 2’6 jumping classes and an under saddle, and your horse is relatively fit, no issues. If your classes are high AO jumpers or classes with high jumps and longer courses, it may not be appropriate, even if not against the rules.
It is common to have three hunter rounds in a row in the Adult Hunters, for instance. In some smaller shows, sometimes it is four rounds, the entire over fences part of the division plus the classic. Not great, but common.
Just to clarify, at most shows you would have the option to rotate with other exhibitors. So you might do one round, come out for a round or two to catch your breath while someone else goes, and then go back in for another round, etc., etc.
