Years ago, I enjoyed showing at Chateau Elan… are there still shows held there??
Thanks, Equibrit. I did see that page on the CE site. However, there did not seem to be any actual shows on the calendar so I thought I would ask here.
I do not think there are, at least none of our shows are held there anymore. It had fallen into disrepair and there was no funding to keep it up.

I loooooooved Chateau too. What a shame.
I had heard some years ago that the homeowners did not like horses being at CE. The views were really pretty but I hated the steep hills there!
Not for a while now, >5 years at least I believe.
My last show there was a PSJ show the summer of 2006 and I believe it was one of the last shows held. I remember hearing back then that they were going to put more houses there, but then the bubble burst after they closed it for showing and it fell into disrepair as another poster mentioned.
2008 was the last show I showed there (RMI) and I think the last RMI show there. By then Rick was using his place in Aiken for PSJ shows. I know Little Vic held a few Elite shows there for another year or so and some dressage stuff lingered on beyond that. But I haven’t heard of anything since 2010.
John and Rick both said the covered was really hard to maintain good footing. Something about being surrounded 100% by higher land and water following the laws of gravity. Add that to it being "covered? and it the base was always wet/slick just under the footing. And for reasons I can’t remember, the solution wasn’t as simple as “add more footing”. I do remember making some very careful turns on the top end of that arena!
Dang, I was way off! It seems like for awhile there in the mid to late 2000s that we kept hearing it would be their last year holding shows and then the next thing you knew another show would be scheduled…
I do wish I could get one of those beautiful show pictures with the vineyard in the background with my current horse. It seems everyone who shows in this area has at least one vineyard show pic.
Big regret that I never got a Chateau photo. I went many times to spectate but for one reason or another, I never showed there. Bigtime regreats!
I showed at a couple PSJ shows there. I usually only showed BRHJA shows in Tryon (FENCE and Harmon) so it was a “destination show” for me, and my family would all come and make a trip out of it. I have great memories from there.
I think it all changed when a Hotel chain took over running of the place.
