Are you guys getting an email request for your SS number/W9 from USDF?

I thought I’d double check with others that went to regionals. Is USDF requesting an W9 form in exchange for money? Could be the perfect scam: make an email that appears to come from USDF, offer money, and have people send their name , address, social security number, and a signature back by email.

If you were a regional champion or reserve, you get money. Our entry form asked for the information.

Why don’t you call USDF and give them the information over the phone, just to be safe.

I’d be amazed if the scammers would target USDF, but you never know.

They should absolutely in NO WAY be asking you to send your W9 by email. They are opening themselves up to all sorts of issues if they do that. I’m a purchasing manager so I handle all the W9s for my corporation and I will ask for a W9 by email if it’s a company with an EIN but a private person and their SSN I ask for them to snail mail it back or fax (because hackers don’t waste time on fax (which is in my locked office) ). If you are paid you should need to give them a W9 because they need to do a 1099 for you at the end of the year so it’s a valid question but I would never email that to anyone.

Thanks for the input! I’ll ask them if I can snail mail it in to them instead. Seems to easy to hack into email and I’d never even know my W9 is being distributed.
