Arena Drags

I LOVE it! We have terrible ground and it makes it smooth and nice.

For leveling arena sand you can order a leveling blade attachment for your Drag 'n Fly (pic #1) that you install to replace the front row of spring tines. On my 60 inch arena groomer the spring tines were removed easily by removing 7 bolts. Then the leveling blade bolts right on. Maybe a two hour job at most. They do stick it to you on the price to buy the leveling blade. My 60 inch leveling blade was $400.

Stock photos- I have the 60 inch version of pic #2. Pic #3 is just to show the leveling blade in place, but it’s on a different model.

IMO, the EZ Groomer is NOT a bargain. I have had mine for six years and replaced ALL of the parts and I only had three horses and only one of riding age, so I wasn’t beating it up. I found the manufacturer horribly unresponsive. I had trouble with the tires blowing all the time, and I think they finally recognized that and now have solid tires on them instead of inflatable tires. I got my replacement tires finally on Amazon. I have been unable to get any reply to my request for new bearings. There are PARMA dealers around here who will service the PARMA. See if you can buy local from someone who will service your tool, otherwise it is a total PAIN. Depending on what your base is, you may not want something that rips as much as an EZGroomer or a Parma. The EZGroomer ruined my base. My footing expert told me that if you have sand/rubber footing, you do not need something like this that rips.

This is why I went w the ABI Rascal Pro w the profiler blade. I didn’t have any trouble dealing w them at all. I bought mine at equine affaire. There were two guys there. One was obnoxious, so I ignored him and focused on the other one. The obnoxious one gave up easily.:grinning:

@LCDR What kind of footing do you have? I have sand with carpet fibers (master surfaces) mixed in. I’ve never gotten as good of a mix as I would like, so am curious if you have any experience with how the leveling bar works with my type of footing. But thanks for the tip - this is potentially game changing!

My footing is sand, without additives.

We have a Reist ring groomer (purchased about 4 years ago) and harrow an outdoor sand ring using our tractor. Love the groomer!! The only thing that sucks is the “kick out” of it as its quite large but there is an attachment that you can add to stop that, but we havent purchased it yet.

To level my indoor arena I just attached a jumping pole horizontally to my tractor and it did a good job. Much less work than attaching harrows or other equipment. A lot cheaper also,

How to attach the pole, please.

That was so long ago i can’t remember exactly how I did t. Probably used ropes or lungeline on either end and then tied it to the hitch at the back of the tractor. My footing was a sand base with crumb rubber on top.

I ended up getting a Rascal Pro for a great price used!

Unfortunately their parts department works the same way. You have to set up an account, then list what parts you think you need, then a parts person has to call you to discuss. There is no way to order parts yourself.

I even had to wait on a return phone call from my “dealer” when I called to check the current price on the tool to see how much I should offer considering it was missing a few parts.

The drag is great but there is a learning curve because it can really DIG into your arena footing. This one came with the teeth but no profile blade and I think the profile blade is probably more idiot proof.

I have the profiler blade for that reason😀.

You definitely want the profile blade! There is a learning curve but they have a ton of helpful info on the website.

Well you can’t order anything without talking to a parts person and its been over a week so no profile blade right now.

Still no response. I emailed the dealer who’s been emailing me weekly for a year and asked him to connect me with a parts person.

That’s obnoxious to the point I’d be tempted to have a local fab shop give it a try. I can measure mine when I get home and take detailed pictures. They’re off the drag at the moment, the teeth are on, so it would be no trouble. My drag is 6.5 feet wide, I think.

I bought the 3 point attachment for mine and did not have these issues, I’m sorry.

Does anyone have a drag they pull with a horse?

Update: After realizing that the email from my “new drag” rep that I get weekly asking me to contact them about buying a new drag did not apparently go to a real person, I messaged ABI on FB and they responded quickly and said that the parts department was really far behind and my used parts person would contact me the next day.

They contacted me Wednesday by email and asked if I bought a new to me drag, and said they needed the serial number. I sent it to them and have not heard back yet.

I will try calling on Monday.
