Arena Lights

I’m looking for suggestions on the best type of lights to use for an outdoor arena 90 ft by 250 ft.

I’m looking for something that is low maintenance, I don’t want to be changing bulbs all the time since it will require renting a lift to reach the light. Arena is for private use only, probably 8-10 hours a week, tops.

Arena is located 80 feet from the barn.

Ideas, suggestions, recommendations?

We have a similar situation. My sister and I put in LED lights in her ring (approx 40 m x 60 m = 120’ x 180’).

It was NOT cheap, but the bulbs should last 30 years, and she can’t even see a change in her electric bill. Also environmentally friendly.

The light level is great (I have jumped under the lights)

Janet,
How did she mount the LEDs? Are they on 4x4 posts? or somthing like telephone poles? How tall were the posts and how many lights did she put in/around?
thanks!

Thanks, Janet. If the bulbs last 30 years that would be awesome. I’m in my mid fifties so at that rate, they would outlast my probable riding career  . I second Working Hunter, do you remember how she mounted them? How far apart were they? How high?

I am in the midst of lighting an arena of similar size, 100x220 with LED’s which model did you end up using for the actual lighting I have 6 existing posts at 40ft high and my contractor says it should be fine with only 6. Thanks

I’m still trying to decide which type I need. It’s been difficult to get any information.

Our electrician recommended Floodzilla lights for our outdoor arena mounted at (I think) 20’ high. The arena is about 90’ wide and 150’ long. There will be 2 lights each on the long sides and one at each end. These are metal halide lights. We don’t have them up yet, but have purchased them all. My request was enough light to ride at night, but I didn’t necessarily need enough light to jump.

Found the bulb
ILP
FDL-160W/140W LED-UNIV-4000K
Large Dual Flood with Yoke, 160W/140W, 120V-277V 4000K Color Temp

We have 4 posts, each with two lights, aimed slightly different directions.

Definitely bright enough to jump under.

Thank you, Dynamite and Janet, this is exactly the information I need to go price shopping. This helps out so much!

Looks like Janet’s fixtures here. About $500 each.

Where did you get your posts? And how did you transport them and stick them in the ground?
