A premature renaming of Arrogate is a thought, but only time will tell how great this colt really is.
Think that horse has a great press agent;)…
They were two spectacular races but, having been so disappointed so many times by horses that were looking at superstardom but took a bad step, got some weird bug, stepped on a pin, had bad biorhythms or abruptly retired before running back to that form.
Are they going to run him in the Pegasus? Any hint to next years plans? Dubai? Anybody over here running as a 4yo+ horse that could push him to more performances like the Travers and BC?
Here are his works leading up to the BC:
Track Date Course Distance Time Note Rank
Santa Anita 10/31/2016 Dirt 4F 46.80 Breezing 3/54
Santa Anita 10/25/2016 Dirt 6F 1:11.20 Handily 1/6
Santa Anita 10/18/2016 Dirt 7F 1:24.40 Handily 1/2
Santa Anita 10/12/2016 Dirt 7F 1:25.40 Handily 1/2
Santa Anita 10/6/2016 Dirt 5F 1:00.80 Handily 7/25
Santa Anita 9/27/2016 Dirt 4F 48.20 Breezing 3/18

While I won’t discount him just yet, it takes more than two races (no matter how brilliant) to become a REALLY GOOD horse, let alone be called great.
I’ll reserve judgement until seeing how he does next year.
I’m not reserving judgment - he is spectacular - but would LOVE to see it continue!
I would agree, Arrogate is spectacular but I’m not sure if he’s spectacular enough for HOY.
Yes, I’d like to see him on the track next year. If his performance continues as it has been, then maybe 2017 HOY
Speaking of Unbridled’s Song, a tail male grandson of his by Domestic Dispute won the 4 mile Maryland Hunt Cup over timber fences this year. Horse’s name is Senior Senator.

He finished first at the American Grand National in a 3 1/4 mile timber race the week before but was disqualified.
Both races were amateur jockey only races.
A prolific sire, Unbridled Song has carried the label of unsoundness it seems forever. He has also been definitely considered a speed favoring progenitor. If anything, it appears that Arrogate can be a poster colt to dispute that.
As far as HOY, I am for Chrome. That said I think Arrogate is the best of this year’s derby crop.
This was as good and competitive an Oaks and older mare year as I can remember since the turn of the century. Certainly a better handicapping debate, than the male division.
Based on the above comment, then Beholder for HOY as she beat CC as well as Songbird? She didn’t win all her races but neither did Chrome.

Not sure what races you’ve been watching, but Beholder never beat CC.

Well, not discounting him at all. That BC race stands as a great one. Just don’t get sucked in by the hype. The connex of any horse are going to sing it’s praises to keep the the attention of future training clients, investors, mare owners and the betting public on the horse. Any doubts are kept private.
But I did get my question about his 2017 campaign answered. Rather vague. Nothing definite and nothing until spring at the earliest. I hope we see him over here next year in a few more races then we got to see this year.

Was gonna say um…she never even got close to him seriously.
And yeah, HOY is WAY overstating Arrogate. He has only two stakes wins, one against restricted company, one where it was while being given weight by a horse who had a much harder campaign and by a close half. It would be different if he’d won even a couple of the spring classics, if his other races were graded stakes, but he has the Travers, the Classic, three AOCs, and two MSW. He lost at Los Al, and the MSW he won was a five-horse field where he’s the only one not still a maiden. He probably deserves best 3yo male, which is more a reflection on this year’s crop than anything (I normally hate dubbing a crop weak, but this year they’ve kind of earned it), but he didn’t run a HOTY campaign by any stretch. Despite more losses Beholder would have a better argument, and Chrome’s the far and away logical choice.
I must be loosing my marbles as I thought she did in the Pacific Classic… my mistake.
