My four year old cat has been limping; a vet visit (including x-rays) suggested she has ‘narrowing of the joint space’ in her hip and some arthritis. The vet gave a supplement which has had little effect. My cat is…difficult. A daily pill would be almost impossible (and I’m not eager to start daily NSAIDs or pain medication since she is so young). Do cats do well on injectables like Adequan or cartrophen (these aren’t available in my current location, but we’re moving next week to an area with more options for care)?
When you’ve moved, ask the local vet clinics about Solensia for cats. Search it here first, as there are posts about it, and Google it.
My 19yo has been on it for over a year for arthritis.
Before that she was on Adequan but AFAIK Solensia is actually for cats.
Good luck with your move!
Good luck on your move. BTW, love your username
There are injectables - and you can get gabapentin to feed your kitty before vet visits to make the injection visits go more smoothly.
4 is young for hip arthritis but unfortunately many cats seem to get it. Have you already tried the kitty Cosequin? You can get it on Chewy. I’ve used it for the last 6 years for my kitty, and it’s easy to feed. It’s in treat form. I have five cats and all five of them will try to eat the treats if I don’t hide them.
Solensia is an option and I’ve heard wonderful things, but it didn’t work for my cat. She has always been a cat that enjoys testing the limits of my financial well-being and personal vet funds ( ) so it may be her more than Solensia. I did see an improvement while she was on it, other than the horrible skin reaction.
