Hi, I am looking to re-locate with my horse to Asheville, NC. However, through google search and some very old threads here on chronofthehorse, I can’t seem to find a facility with a trainer that would be a good fit for us. I have an upper level horse and would prefer to do a training board where an experienced trainer (silver or gold medalist) could ride my horse for me about five times a week. Ample turn out and nice people are a must. USDF shows are a must, as well.
I was curious if anybody had current information(websites? Facebook pages?) of any facilities that would fit this criteria. Would prefer to stay within 35-40 minutes of Asheville. Thanks!
There is a lot more happening in the Tryon/Columbus area now with the new Tryon Equestrian Center. That is about 45 minutes south of Asheville, straight down I-26. Jennifer Baumert used to be in Columbus, but is in charlotte now.
One of her former assistant trainers, Ashley Parsons, has her silver medal and is still in the area. She is on Facebook. You should check the NCDCTA page to see who is listed in western NC.
Hokan Thorn would be another option in the Tryon area, trained in Germany, international competitor, Gold Medal, brought many horses to GP, etc. He’s at Cross Creek Farm which is right off I-26 at the Landrum exit. His contact phone # is 404.275.8888. I know some of his students are from Asheville.
In any case I’d recommend you sign up for the weekly e-newsletter “This Week in Tryon Horse Country.” Comes out every Monday morning and covers all things horse in the area. Go to www.tryonhorsecountry.org and scroll down to find link to sign up for that. You can also look thru past issues to see who’s been here for clinics, etc. Good luck with your search and your move. It’s a great area to live in…
