At what age can you still hunt?

Two days ago, our hunt Patron celebrated his 90th birthday - doing what he does twice a week right throughout winter. Hunting! We carded a hunt in his honour and had 143 riders from all over the North Island join us.

Lou Thompson hunts regularly, and still jumps all the time, with his wife Wylma who is 16 years his junior. We call her his “child bride” They still run their own farm and have only stopped breeding and breaking in their own horses in the last few years.

We even had TV there - it was a pretty special day!

Great stuff

I wish I could have come up for it but didn’t know about it till quite late. Maybe in 5yrs time

Hubby and I just watched the 7 sharp segment - we were both laughing. I said to hubby ‘I hope I can still ride when I’m 90’ and he said ‘I hope I’m still alive’ . . .

Melvin Poe still hunts his own hounds here in Virginia’s storied Hunt Country.
He turns 94 in a month and is my model for the future!

I hope to be like them!!! Hunting into my 90s! We have several older members of our hunt, although not quite that old yet!

Ooo, thanks! That video! What scenery!!

There was a great video going around on Facebook today about a man in Ireland celebrating his 90th birthday (with his wife riding too) on a foxhunt…running, jumping and lots of stirrup cups!..Quite inspiring!!!
He’s been hunting over 40 years!

I am certain that foxhunters’ undisputed longevity in the saddle is due to our scrupulous morals and good clean living.

Our most mature member just turned 81, and had a wonderful feature in the Spring Covertside! He is an absolute character!

@ Martha, could the alcohol be preserving us?!? :o

Thanks for posting. Great video!

Amazing!

Two of our members that hunt twice weekly in second field are 83 years old. They don’t jump anymore but they carry on just fine. One of them has been a member since she was 18 years old. Pretty cool.

Lovely fixture! Great story. Thank you.

We have several active subscribers in their 80’s. My role models!

It’s quite an inspiration, isn’t it? To see people still out hunting at at time in life when many are in old folks’ homes and merely existing.

This is the great video I mentioned above. Only you have to suffer through the commercial first. It’s worth it though…

 That’s the same one that I put up on the original post  Gives you an idea of our hunt country.

Oops, didn’t see it. Your country is lovely and your hunt looks so fun!!!

We have a living legend riding in our hunt who is 87. She is marvelous!! I have learned so much from her. And not just about hunting, either.

“How’s the bum?” “Ah, it’s alright. Wanna have a look?” LOLOL
