Athletic stallion wanted for 2017

I have a breeding stock Sportaloosa mare that I am looking to breed. She has broken two world records for racing and is an incredible mare! However, we never realized that she could be registered until now, so she has not been racetrack proven.:cry:She is a blanketed bay Arabian/Appaloosa cross and stands 14.1 hh. I am looking for 2017 stallions for her, and have been finding it hard.
So post on!

What are you trying to produce? Are you looking for spots, speed, more size, mellow temperament, jumping ability or an all around horse for you to ride? Playland Farm has produced some wonderful Irish Draught/Arabian all arounder/eventing/family horse types with their stallion but I am not sure of what you are trying to produce. Irish Draught Sport Horses differ in their capabilities depending on the breeding of the mares.

I am looking to produce a racer, so more size, speed, temperament not important as it could be, as she is too laid back for my liking. Spots are not important to me. Jumping ability would be great, as she is a pretty cool low level eventer, despite her small size.

I’ve never heard of a Sportaloosa. It is an Arab/App cross? Used in Arab racing?

No they’re an appy crossed with a sporthorse. She almost didn’t squeak through with being an Arabian cross!

Look up Sportaloosa International… They can probably give you more information than I can!

If your looking for a racehorse you’ll want to breed to a tb, a ranch bred qh, or another Arab from racing/endurance lines

what country are you located? Sportaloosa isn’t majorly popular here in the USA. Most are Appy, Knabstrupper, RPSI or AWS and registered as such. I would look into what the poster above stated on breeds.

To be honest though… I’m kind of lost to what racing you do. If it is Arab racing will going with a TB stallion dilute the Arab % so you can’t enter races? Can’t you register a App/Arab with half arab or full appy registry?

She very well could be, but she is registered with the open registry, which doesn’t require a pedigree. It was just her testing results that came back as Arabian x Appaloosa. Any of her foals will be eligible for registration and racing. So in a way, this time we’re kind of looking for a stallion to improve, as opposite as it sounds!

You are looking for a stallion to improve?? As in you are looking for a stallion who is of lower quality than your mare?? Yes, that does sound opposite.

probably stupid question, why don’t you use one of the stallions listed on the Sportaloosa HP?? If you stick to the idea to call this a registry, then you would be consistent.
And because of all the breeds in your mare already, it will be very difficult to predict the outcome anyhow, so maybe one of the listed stallions would be a good fit. As I don’t know your mare I wouldn’t know what to recommend but I would look into it…

No. Do you catch no sarcasm at all? It is merely that she is so fast that we can’t find anything to better her speed, so all we can do is do our best to get a stallion with good speed and bloodlines. I have looked into the stallions on the site, and as a general rule, it is too expensive to ship semen from the ones that would add to her value.

so… in the open registry… any horse can race?

What’s her racing name and where did she race? I am sure someone can find a nice nick for her. She sounds lovely.

I think I’ve heard of her… Did she race out of Breyer Stables International, or on the Peter Stone Circuit? Sounds like such a special horse, I bet she’s a model for her breed. Don’t you wish you could just make a million of her?

No she never raced in an actual race because she wasn’t registered until a little bit ago. We just ran her on racetracks against other horses and timed her, she broke two world records, but it will never be known, because we have no proof. She has won against an Akhal Teke/TB cross, a purebred TB, and MANY, MANY, grade horses. She has run in fair races. But no registered races! :frowning: I am still looking into racing options for her, although I wouldn’t want to race her now, as she is ten years old and has slowed down a lot. She was malnourished as a youngster and now can’t have more than 150 lbs on her back either. I doubt youve heard of her… She isn’t very popular, seeing, like I said, how she never ran registered.

She has done 400 yards, dirt, in 15.3 seconds, and a mile, dirt, in just under a minute.

Was she imported from Horse Isle?

I know the perfect stallion. His name is The Black, he is rumored to be Arabian but doesn’t have papers so he too only runs in match races!!! I think he would suit your mare perfectly, their stories are so similar. Has your mare ever been in a shipwreck?

I almost said it earlier…but I was just going to recommend a stallion and link to the black stallion. Does that make me an awful person hahahaha

But seriously, OP, there’s a whole racing forum on COTH you may want to check out.

And yes, don’t know why I didn’t think of The Black! :stuck_out_tongue:
