Who would you recommend if looking for a wonderful children’s hunter with a competitive USEF show recored? Trying to fly in, look, and fly out in one day.
That schedule is going to present challenges and limit how many you can see. The airport is at least an hour from most farms, and it is going to be tough to avoid traffic on one end or the other, and we have tons of construction delays right now too. So factor that in and consider coming in the night before if you want to make multiple stops. I would check with Lauren Kissel at Patchwork and Julie Curtin at New Vintage, they might have more than one you could try. There will be others people think of, those are just the first two that come to mind. Kat Mulkey at Four Seasons Farm is fantastic, but I don’t know that she has anything for sale right now, and she’s east, in madison, so it would be a one stop only option, unless you were continuing on to Aiken and looking somewhere like the Geitners.
edited to add Stephanie Parker-Cumming at Pecan Lane. She’s also east of Atlanta, not far from Kat, and definitely has sale horses right now.
There are loads of good barns there but none that I think of as bigtime sale barns where on any given day you’re guaranteed to have 4-5 if any type to see. I think you have to call around and see who has what. Pansy Winters has a nice children’s hunter right now. Also maybe call Hillford and Falcon Ridge?
Very useful information. Much appreciated.
The KHP is hosting a number of prestigious Finals (Pony, Derby, Pre Green Incentive) plus 4 regular 4-5 day AA rarted shows in the next 4 weeks. It’s HUGE buy sell opportunity in almost all price ranges as kids age out, move up, go to college and horses run out of Green eligibility. There’s a thousand or more horses there, most are for sale. Many barns stay the month. Vets are there.
One stop shopping. Bet most of the ATL barns will have at least some clients there. Should be able to try several, at least, depending on budget and they aren’t all going to be high 5 figures and up. Not to say you’ll find much under 30k or so but that’s where they are until mid August.
Yes findeight is correct, a good number of the AA barns from Atlanta will have at least some horses in Kentucky, and those that don’t go to Kentucky will do one or more weeks of the Equus Events Summerfest shows at Chatt Hills.
Yes, really do plan to spend the night if you come to ATL. Day trip will be painful due to ATL traffic to/from airport. And that way, if you do find something you like, perhaps you can arrange 2nd ride next day.Or time with Summerfest shows so you can try some at the show and then some who are at home.
Hawkwood Farm in Senoia should be worth a try. All of Scott’s horses are great.
Step N Free Stables in Fayetteville is 20 mins from the airport, and would be easy to do as well as Hawkwood in Senoia as mentioned above. Both would have great folks to help you with an awesome selection of horses.
You’ve all been a big help.
Step N Free as well as Nicole Imbriglio - they work close together and I know Nicole has several really nice hunters right now - you might want to see about arranging to have horses shipped to one barn to try so you aren’t having to travel to two separate barns.
Maybe check these barns’ websites first to see what they have for sale.
It may be worth reaching out to Tim Sweat at Foxcroft- he has a client with a 2017 3’3" Large Junior Zone Champion/HOTY Gelding for sale, and I believe she also has another gelding. Tim is in the North side of Atlanta in the suburbs in the Milton/Alpharetta area.
Did that. Nice horses. Thank you!
