Can anyone tell me why some Hunter trials request actual Hunt attire and other hunter trials are less formal, with riders wearing XC attire?
I’m guessing it’s the preference of the hunt club or farm having the hunter trial, correct or not?

Yes, it is based on local culture. For the dress code just give a call to the organizers. Hunter trials, by definition were always held by Hunts as a way to raise funds to help off set the cost of running the Hunt. They were not limited to members. At least that’s the way it has been in my neck of the woods. I believe more and more are being held by none Hunt associated venues.

Thanks so much! Interesting and good to know. That’s kind of what I thought, but wasn’t sure. Going to hunter trial in Monkton (where I board) on Sunday and it’s formal attire. Small world! Monkton is just my favorite area- absolutely beautiful!!!
