Looking to purchase an arena drag/groomer for my ATV and would love to hear your experiences with yours . Thanks!
We used a metal gate and it worked fine
What is the arena surface?
I have a sand/fiber mix and use a DragNFly which works really well. Not sure it would be the best choice for other materials, though.
agree the surface matters. I have a tine harrow that worked well with my crushed stone outdoor. When I built an indoor and installed sand/fiber footing, I bought a Max Plantz which is super fancy and does a great job with that. But I don’t think it would have worked with the crushed stone at all, like the harrow doesn’t work for this.
I have a tine harrow and one of the 6’ DragonFly groomers. BOth have their place; but I find I use the simple harrow more, both tines down and upside down. SOmetimes I put a piece of 6x6 on it for extra weight.
I have the Arena Rascal Pro connected to my ATV with the optional power lift and LOVE it. Our ring is currently stone dust and it is a great drag for that surface.
I just use a tine harrow pulled by a Honda with a 350cc engine. I’ll toss a couple cinderblocks on top if I need to scarify the ground a bit more.
Just like the arena surface will affect your selection, so should ATV size. I would want a 400+cc engine if pulling an implement that picks up / redeposits a lot of material, like a blade or land plane. I mean, for isolated heavy pulling tasks, my 350cc ATV is a champ. That thing has done pretty much everything I’ve asked. But I’m more careful about what I ask it to do for a long, sustained work session like arena dragging.
- Edit button not working, but just wanted to add that being sensitive to the ATV’s engine capacity is a big reason why our 15yr old ATV still runs great with just biannual tuneup / maintenance.
