Auction Horses make good--true stories!

No matter whether you see purchasing a horse at auction as an “adoption,” “rescue,” or sale, I think this article gives a very clear picture of the realities of what you are likely to get.

It is ALWAYS a gamble, and every horse is not Snowman, but here are a number of success stories I think everyone will enjoy:

Think what you might of the Camelot sales structure and what is made of it by others, I think it’s unarguable that due to the FB networking and the fact that Frank bought them out of New Holland to begin with, an awful lot of horses, ponies, and donkeys got a second chance at a great life who otherwise would have fallen to the killers’ bolt.

Unfortunately this is apparently going to end now, because Frank Carper is retiring to KY and his facility has been leased to a new business which is rumored to be “operating differently.”

Wishing Frank and the Camelot Horse Weekly people peace, happiness and contentment in the future. Y’all done well!

A little OT, but do you know why I’m no longer getting the Camelot “feed” on my FB.

Always loved your pictures Alibhai!

I am out in Kansas and last summer I met a lady riding a very pleasant Saddlebred. She got him via a Saddlebred rescue who got him out of Camelot. He was also the “go to” horse when her 12 year old son wanted to ride. I thought it was very cool!

That’s so great to hear, SLW! I’m continually amazed by the reach that this effort had.

Toadie’s mom, I’m not sure, but I’ve heard other people say the same thing. The page is still active, and horses are typically shared one per hour during daytime hours.

And thank you very much!

What a great thread!!

I own 3 Camelot horses and had 2 others for resale, and got my student one years ago. They all needed work (well…2 were babies…lol), but were what I saw.

Camelot will be missed. I had gone there for over 10 years to get tack, see people and what not.

I do not think the new owners will do well. But i know them. … So who knows.

Frank and Monica, I am very sure, are ready to retire and deserve it. They will be missed.

It’s a shame that they are coming to an end. I have a mule from AC4H, which, again, despite it’s super sketchy rep, fake 501c, and oddball founder, DID place a lot of horses. I hope someone, somewhere, steps up to set up something similar for the poor souls going through New Holland. AC4H and then Camelot were a golden ticket to a potentially better life.

Here’s my little AC4H mule. Came to me semi-feral with burrs in his tail and oozing Strangles abscesses under his jaw. Ended up as my beginner-friendly guest horse, and the most hilarious little pest you can imagine.

At a show

Family photo shoot.

His KYHorse halter, w/nameplate.

Under saddle. (He’s only 13.2!)

OOOH, I love your mule!! I have a 12.2 donkey and after working with her my next riding critter will be a mule!!!

I want that mule!!! Adorable, and love the halter! I had to remove Camelot from my news feed as I was getting much too close to buying a horse from there. There were so many that looked really nice!
