Automatic Feeder Options for 1

My friend moved to TN and I lost my a.m. feeder (she fed mornings, I did noon and night.) There isn’t anyone else who can feed for me and I can’t get there first thing in the morning. I am also feeding noon and diner already and can’t add in any more, but have to get them in still. Automatic feeders I am seeing are huge, require electricity (vs battery. Solar adds a whole new price point) and are expensive. Anyone have solutions for a cheap feeder or box that will pop open at a specific time I can set out to open for her morning feed?

Maybe something like this only larger and sturdier: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000241NRI/ref=pd_aw_sim_sbs_199_3?ie=UTF8&dpID=41YU816YCeL&dpSrc=sims&preST=AC_UL100_SR100%2C100&refRID=1XNYACVXYBAPXP1KJ5E4

Anyone? Even DIY

Expensive, but here’s something: http://www.barnpros.com/barn-store.aspx?pagename=Product%20Details&prodid=8554

Can you advertise for a person to feed? might be cheaper and safer.

The one I have is a deer feeder made by Sweeney feeders. They don’t actually make a horse feeder. You might be able to cobble something together (as I have).

I used a Sweeney feeder for years and years when I was a kid and my horse lived out in a field way out in the country.

The one I have now I’ve been using for 18 years.

Thanks Magic, I have looked at all of those and they are all very expensive. CS, the problem is getting someone reliable. Most don’t show and when they do, they are random times. My friend had her horse with mine and we are both reliable down to the time we get there. Cindy, can you show me pictures and what you did? I am going to look up the item you used now. Thank you. ??

Ouch, they are pricey to! :frowning:

What about a slow feeder option. You could feed in that at night and skip the AM feeding. Feed lunch and then the last feeding later (like
9pm).

This auto feeder is battery operated but yes…$$$$

My horse only gets fed 2x/day. I know…far from optimal but this horse and the 2 before her have survived just fine on that. I do add lunch if I am out riding but life issues (parents) have limited my barn time a lot lately. If I do feed lunch, I put it in a Porta Grazer to slow her down. http://porta-grazer.com
Barn owners won’t mess with slow feeders so I put her snacks/lunch in it.

Good luck.

Susan

Sure. I’ll take some pictures and post them tomorrow.
