Great article!

Christina Keim does a really good job with her Back from the Brink articles. She recently did one on our son.

Amazing story - some tears reading it along the way I must admit. I’m so happy for Holden and the life you give him!

I read that article as well and was so impressed with your son’s courage and determination.

This is such a great story!

Yet another fan of Dr. Gaby here. He is absolutely not everyone’s cup of tea, but he is a great vet. When Feronia came up lame in 2010, he’s the one who figured out what was going on. I think he’d seen me as just another chubby middle-aged re-rider with a beloved but not quite suitable horse, until one day he asked me what I did for work. “Biostatistician” I said, and he replied “Oh, a scientist!” And everything changed.

What a lovely comeback story, and his expression in this photo says it all:

“Look of eagles” indeed. :heart_eyes:

(Okay, I tried three times and can’t get the photo to show up in my quote so I give up, sigh. It’s the wonderful one you posted of you two galloping!)

Such a great story! Most owners would have put him down, but your commitment made all the difference.

I’m a little late to the party, but what a great partnership you and Holden have. Congratulations and massive respect for doing right by your boy. I hope you’ll come to the Groton House Classic 2025!

He is a great vet with a fantastic eye for soundness. Like Feronia, Dr Gaby was the one that figured my late horse’s issues out. I can’t say enough positive things about Essex. I was able to make payments (versus pay the sum up front) and they made it their prerogative to see Holden survive. Dr Gaby also got out of his truck after leaving from a check-up to help me set up round pen panels for Holden. He called it “Holdenprovements” - which my family thought was hilarious and still use to this day.

P.S @frugalannie and @quietann any chance I saw one of you lovely ladies on Sunday at GH? I took my young mare to the Myopia Hunter Pace with a very patient @GreyDes and her gorgeous mare . COTHer @Larbear was riding Holden. As always, GH is the highlight of our season!!

Myopia Fall is my favorite hunter pace. It’s such a beautiful ride!

@frugalannie & @quietann - Thanks so much for volunteering!

And @beowulf’s mare is impressive. It was fun watching her tackle the jumps.

Had I known you were all there, I’d have stopped by, but commitments didn’t allow me to volunteer. @Quietann and I are pretty regular volunteers at the GHF Classics, however.

Yes I was there! I was at the Mill Rd bridge on the Ipswich side. It was a great day. (If you got to the bridge after 2 I wasn’t there; I got really cold.)
