I was so excited to run across an article in COTH outlining the amazing story of @beowulf and her incredible OTTB Holden!
It’s a really great read, and a heartwarming tale! I can’t wait to read the sequel in a few years!

love this so much!
omg, truly a miracle story. He is a beautiful horse (I think he has presence, despite what some people thought originally) and what an unflagging spirit (both of you)!
I just read it! Omg I went from feeling nauseous to excited to thrilled! What an amazing story !
Thank you for all the kind words. Shortly after being interviewed, Holden and I wrapped up our 2024 season on a blue (32.8 dressage, double clear jumping). I have to give a huge shout out to my massive support network, including my mom who has never let me get discouraged enough to give up. I’m so lucky.
I hope that our story helps other amateurs like me that are feeling discouraged after a diagnosis or new set-back. I certainly never anticipated I would be riding him again, much less competing. It took us many years to get here, but I hope everyone has a horse as special as Holden in their life.
What a story! I savored every word.
Love that GMHA was a part of his story. Please let us know if you come up here next year so we can have a Holden fan club meetup
Both you & Holden are Rockstars!
To me, his face in that Winner pic says “See? I knew I had it in me!”
What a wonderful story and a good, good boy! You must be so proud of his comeback, I can’t even imagine.
What a neat story. He knew all along you had faith in him.
What a great story and I have to say I am a huge fan of Dr. Gaby and not surprised to read how supportive he was! Congratulations on your win as well!
I was really so impressed and touched by this article. It took incredible strength and patience from both horse and rider to persevere through so many challenges. Loved it!
I cried through the whole story, mostly happy tears! So grateful that so many of us still exist that continue to see the potential and still put the horse first, even when it’s painful or difficult (or expensive!) for us. What a lovely article.
I just read that article this morning without knowing it was Beowulf but it brought me to tears and I kept thinking to myself that Holden was so lucky to have found such a loving and kind owner.
Great story. What a lot of challenges to overcome! Holden was very lucky to find someone who gave him the time, faith and care that he needed to come into his own.
Brett is an amazing vet who really cares about healing horses. I just came from an appointment with him (he’s treating a friend’s horse) and the mare has made such significant progress it was so heartening to see. Eight weeks ago, I thought it would be lucky if she even became pasture sound.
Incredible story, incredible horse, incredible owner! I can feel how special this partnership is.
Congratulations, Beowulf! What a wonderful story, and gives me hope something like that will happen with my guy (a much older version of Holden)
@Bogie : does Dr. Gaby do housecalls to British Columbia? jk (kind of…)
oh my gosh this is so amazing!! Congratulations!!
What I love about CoTH is how many members will move heaven and earth for their horses…so many wonderful owners.
What a wonderful story, may it long continue!
From the article “he is a textbook Thoroughbred” . Two amazing beings - Holden and beowulf!
