Baby Green Eligibllity Question

Ok, so I have a Baby Green horse that has only shown at 2 other local shows at 2’6 this year and I know she is eligible to show at rated shows in the Baby Greens. So I happened to look at other entries for an upcoming horse show and saw a horse also in the Baby Green division, that I have seen show in the 3’ Pre-Greens at a horse show. I pulled up that horses USEF record and it showed 2 times in the 3’ Pre-Greens this year in December.

So my question is if a horse has shown 3’ at a rated show can they go back to the Baby Greens? I was under the impression that once you move up you can’t move back?

I know the Baby Greens aren’t a USEF recognized division and could not find any info or rules on it. I also looked at the shows prize list but there was no info/definition for the Baby Greens.

Baby Green specs are set by show, since it’s an unrated division. At all the shows I’ve attended, a horse can definitely show in both the baby greens and the pre-greens.

Pre-Green rules, per USEF (HU106.3.A):A Pre-Green Hunter is a horse of any age in his first or second year of showing over 3’ 0" (0.925m) or 3’3" (1.00m) fences that has never competed over fences of 3’6" (1.07m) or higher.

Baby Green specs in the prize list at an upcoming Premier show: Open to a horse of any age in its first year of showing. Fences 2’6".

Depending on your state association, December might have been part of this show year, I know for VHSA the show year starts December 1, so you can show in December and still be in your “first year of showing over fences”.

Usually baby green is just a horse in it’s first year of showing, no matter what divisions it has entered in that first year. Usually though, you can not cross enter baby green with classes over 2’6" at the same show.

I don’t think I’ve seen a cross entry restriction anywhere for baby greens in a prize list…they all read like in the OP’s prize list. OP’s zone specifications don’t contain any limitations either. I believe you can step back down so long as it’s still in horse’s first year. I don’t know why they would do that in this case, but if the only rated shows were in December, maybe they are thinking that was a mistake and they are going to try to get pre green status reinstated for next year?
