Baby Greenie Support Group now open: Share Your Pain!

Oh, DMK, that’s your arena you described?

I guess I shouldn’t be that amazed. Ours is kinda scarey along one side, too. We have this bushy hedge of trees and honeysuckle that camouflages about 75% of the neighbor’s mess next door. (These are the folks who have now… for the second time… killed off their steer before they could actually slaughter it for meat).
Anyway, our horses see only a tidge of what’s going on, like shadows and outlines, and it mesmerizes them.

Well, I’m off to ride Tigger and the Hanoverian Cow Beast (Barbie). I shall choose the western garb for both. Why? Because we also have sun, but we have the lovely Santa Ana winds, too. You know, where things blow through the air, stinging you in the face?

“Friends don’t let friends eat fish tacos.”

because I just had one of those “awesome” lessons, but I will share the following lovely moments with super-green turbo-mare…

  1. Clearing the placing rail on the landing side of the oxer.

  2. Jumping five feet in the air over a 2’ jump.

  3. #2 plus the added bonus feature of the split-second-stop-stare at the base of the X-COUNTRY jump, then launching herself off all 4 legs like a grasshopper and clearing both the height and width of the jump by a mile!

However, I am so grateful that I am learning to have a super-tight seat and leg and, no matter how bad it was the first time, Miss Mare is a fast learner and doesn’t make the same mistake twice! She’s just very excited to be jumping

Thanks! I’ll give it a try.

Merry, SM is almost recovered from the abscess from hell. So she is on turn out for 2 hours morning and night (when she has eaten her fill she starts to run — and pull shoes – so she comes in until she is hungry again). Somehow she got a 1/4" cut on the inside of the bad leg. It swelled up like nothing I have ever seen…

So now we are nursing that. I don’t know if she will ever get a saddle put on her. SIGH…

And I am starting to think she suffers from terminal stupidity. She is definitely intellectually challenged. Not a trait I normally look for in a riding horse. She may go back through the sales this winter… SIGH…

I had a great lesson on Trick yesterday. Only had time for a little jumping so we only jumped a few x’s. He was really good!!!
We did a lot of flat and my trainer is now having us work on counter cantering for my eq/medal classes. He is just sure that he is not supposed to be on the “wrong” lead that he gets really upset and flips back. Poor Trick
He got it eventually and that is going to be our new exercise to add to the ton of other things I do when I ride him flat.

If you’ll notice the pics, I’m only doing 2’6" too. Stanley tucks much nicer over the bigger fences.

Merry, I’m so glad you’re going to email Pam. I, too, have been wondering how she is.

EqChika, welcome! We always enjoy pictures.

Here’s an odd question. Has anyone ever had saddle pads that absolutely drive their horse nuts? This first happened to me over the summer, with a pad I bought that was the same brand and style as many of my other pads. The first time I put it on Tess, she threw a fit, bucking, kicking, even trying to scrape against a wall like it was making her really itchy. I washed it umpteen many times and tried it again with the same result so I threw it out.

Yesterday, out of the blue, Tess began to act like a banshee again. Since she’s not a big bucker, the second time she tried to launch me, I thought, hmmm, this is a new pad. Even after I took it off, she didn’t settle. Rode her today (different pad obviously!) and she was great.

So now I’m wondering if I’m suffering the curse of the mutant saddle pads. Or maybe if it’s all in my mind (or Tess’s)? Anyone else ever have a similar experience?

My baby, (Franklyn) would actually see the difference between a canter and gallop. It would be real nice if he would STOP JUMPING 2’ CROSS RAILS LIKE THEY ARE 5’ OXERS OVER SOME JUMPS EACH DAY, AND THEN UN-EXPECTANTLY JUMP THEM SLOOPY AND THEN HUGE AGAIN!- I love him any way- we are late bloomers ( he’s 7)

LOL
Thank goodness Elliot is not too bothered by the avalanches coming off the arena roof today and last night.
He has been very good for two weeks now according to various reports from Megan our wonderful barn manager/groom, MJ a very honest fellow rider who would not say he was good unless he truly was and my trainer
When I was shocked at seeing him doing flying changes with the Bumpkinette in her lesson last night I arranged to watch trainer ride him today.
I am so happy.
Elliot jumped beautifully and my wonderous trainer said he is much more up in front now and really liking the bigger jumps.
So jangle those chains for Garmento and Elliot this weekend.

We won’t let Merry take Sam away from you Beezer.

Oh wty, wait til my migraine medicine kicks in. Then you never know what might happen…

Yes, Beezer, we want to hear about Hammie’s show!

Or Merry!??

Robby, welcome to you and the lovely Kate.

DATELINE, OCTOBER 24: (AP Wire Services) A local horsewoman going by the name of “Yeehaw” has just reported that her young paint horse has been kidnapped by two blond women in a Dodge Ram pickup truck and new horse trailer. Both vehicles bore Calif. license plates…

Thanks for sharing your pain, JrEventer! Yes, I’m sticking with the continual downward transitions and fixing, then back to the canter for a while. I actually had her come to a dead stop once, mad that I kept correcting her, and REAR! Like, “Hello!” That is sooooo not allowed!

This behavior, of course, resulted in a MRL: Mid-ride Lunge, whereby she was reminded to always go forward.

Figjam, your horse is so cute! He is trying so hard over that fence. Love his knees! I can’t wait to actually braid Hammie like your guy. I think he’ll look so handsome. Of course, it may all be for naught, meaning I’ll probably end up having a DMK day, LOL! But at least he’ll look beautiful.

I think the “saints” of horses should have their own thread! Elliott can be the first member!

Ooooh - LaurieB!!! EEEEKS!!! How is your neck feeling now?

Poor Rumours!!! How are you feeling?

I think I must be missing a few brain cells, because I had my first outing (ie - pseudo trail and down driveway, etc. ) with Gramento this weekend, with my daughter on her pony, BAREBACK! Oye! Pepper escorted us, cavorting in the leaves and generally dashing about. He didn’t phase my guy or Mini, luckily. Nor, did the stupid sheep running across their field, complete with bells on!

I was very proud of him!

Merry, check out the November 30th issue.
The one with the Bronze on the cover.

I swore the photo of Georgina Bloomberg in the upper right middle photo looks like “Hammie”!!

I wish for flying lead changes and balance. He likes to lean into my outside leg towards the barn than my inside leg towards the barn!

If you can’t beat 'em, try harder.

How wonderful to hear from you, Pam.

I know many of us have been quite worried that we’ve heard nothing from you, but I’ve been hesitant to ask as I knew you’d post when you had some sort of news. We’ll all be thinking of you on the 11th.

Sophie is turning into quite the star. That’s great as it seemed she was going to be your least talented. Perhaps a little thinking time brought her around.

Now, I hope I’m understanding DMK’s second explanation of the triangle/tripod, based on her answer to Janet. She selected a distance of 8’ out from the jump because of RV’s size (17.1) and large stride. She made a “pile” or “stack” of the 3 poles (parallel to the jump): she set 2 on the ground, touching each other, making a base; then set the third pole on top of this base. This makes it somewhat more than just a pole on the ground - sort of a little pyramid.

Cheers, Maggi

I swear I’ll never breed/buy another baby again. And then, on our illustrious trail ride, we came upon the most glorious palomino filly with three white socks! I’m sure it was at least part Arab, but it was an awesome mover in its pasture and just the cutest thang! I’m gonna make that whiney noise like a begging dog now…

But I got a nice compliment at the weekend.

I had a jumping lesson on Music (rising 16) at the weekend, and she was trying to pop her left shoulder on the turns. I commented that that has been her favorite evasion ever since I first backed her.

Another student (her first time “up” since breaking her fingers) was riding at the same time. (I have taken joint lessons with her. A couple of years ago she sold my sister a horse she was having difficulty with, and my sister has had great sucess with the horse, but she ISN’T an easy ride.)

During a break she said: “Did you train her yourself?”
“Yes, I’ve had her since she was a yealing.”
“You and your sister do really well with them.”
