Baby Greenie Support Group now open: Share Your Pain!

Good for you, Pam! I agree, those moments of success are what keeps us going. It was like when I taught first grade. By December, my entire class could read! And I had taught them. It was frustrating at the beginning, teaching phonics and sight words, but when they started sounding out words, and could read their little stories, it sure gave me a sense of accomplishment. So does this mean we should be teaching our horses to read?

“Friends don’t let friends eat fish tacos.”

Yeah Duffy! You go girl with those rust breeches.

And good for Gramento, Olin’s string are some very nice horses. Getting in the hunt with him around is wonderful

And yeah Ryan for taking Stella for a trail ride. Its great for their minds, even if they do spook. Its always so amazing to me to watch horses who are turned out, versus ones who aren’t at shows. You can really tell the difference.

Hello all!

I have been a lurker on the baby green thread for a few months now and finally I have a reason to post. No, I havent gotten a new horsie. I have had my baby for just under 2 years now. However, I just recently backed him and (being the pyschic I am), I can forsee many baby green issues! Hooray! Gotta love issues.

So far things have been going great. Ive only been on him I think 3 times but we have learned the halt and walk. He is still VERY young so thats pretty much all we will be doing for the next year. (He’s getting the wintr off).

So now finally, here is my question.

After having maybe 2 hours under saddle, then having 5 months off, how much will they remember?? Will I have to start again from basics or will he remember how to walk and halt? We dont have an indoor arena and I beleive in giving him the winter of to be a baby…

Also, any advice would be muchly apreciatd! Thanks!!!

But that’s only my opinion.

hahaha

Beezer, I presume you realize that today is your one year anniversary of joining the COTH Board – on November 19, 2000.

Happy anniversary and keep on posting.

Cheers, Maggi

Merry, Back in the dark ages, when I rode a “pleasure pony” I went to lots of these “open shows.” Kate has no idea what she is going to see. I will bet the look on her face will be similar to the look on the greenie’s face when the lasso passed over his OTTB head.

I will keep you all posted.

Bumpkin-
What a very very cute Elliot!

Everyone else-
Im going out ro ride today (WOOHOOOO!) Wish me luck. The mare hasn’t been ridden in a week (school and the fact that I work until it’s dark and sigh no indoor…yet). I’m guessing she’s returned to her more natural Tater Tot shape. Oi… I bought new reins for the one’s she busted and that fungus she developed shall be taken care of. Any attention she gets makes her feel like royalty…poor unspoiled girl. I’ll update again either tonight or tomorrow.

RAIN, RAIN GO AWAY…COME AGAIN ANOTHER DAY!

(Last week I rode her in the rain…weathermen are predicting rain yet again. )

It is hard to work on one’s own. I just try to build on previous successes. I do lots of poles on the ground. I don’t think I could do it with a trainer 200 miles away, though!

Mr Bumpkin just posted something.

Hope that you all like it.

Wish me luck - Tonight I get to ride Stanley agian. Lets see if we can get that lead from right to left. Of course he does left to right perfect. I think thats just imbred in all greenies just to be a pain.

Ill post tommorrow if I’m still walking on the outcome.

I can’t help ya much with the chiro. My mare had hoof angle problems, which set one shoulder higher than the other…chiro helped a lot! If you think your horse may need one, chances are he does. My chiro only had to come out every 6 months as long as I kept up with my mare’s stretches before and after I rode.

Anywho, those pics are great. Looks like your daughter’s really coming along with the older one. What about pics of the new guy?

Won’t you let me take you for a ride.

Won’t you let me show you how it feels.
You can stop the world but you won’t change me.

Ok, I managed to survive another show day with the Greenie. He actually was wonderful for the first two jumping classes (2nd in Eq, and 1st in hunter) He even did his leads properly, front and back at the same time. AND THEN: We had a little medal class for the babies (with a halt and a roll back ) Well, Stanley had had enough of being a good boy and his evil twin showed up. Can we say, lets make the hind feet dance in the corners, then we must throw a buck in here and there on the corners. Halted nice, all the jumps were perfect, but we just had to futz around the corners, even did the roll back beautiful. And we did win that class, even with the corners??? As they say, the best of the worst. hehehe, either that or I can equitate to bucks well.

Anyhoo - Flats were fine(2nd eq, 1st hunter) I wouldn’t let him play, I kept his by himself as much as possible cause now, we were just making nasty faces at everyone that passed us, and Stanley will lunge at another horse, if the mood fits. IDIOT!! Sooo all in all it was a very good day, we were Champions, Yeaaaa!!!

I even got to pictures. He we are taking a HUGE spot.

Me three, she said she was going to check in…

Mr Brain (the yearling stud colt) has been making nice progress on ponying. We even go out in the big field.

But on Sunday he decided to push the limits.

What happens if I try to bite Spy’s neck every three stides? (You get slammed on the chain over the nose, and eventually Spy shoves his rear end in your face.)

What happens if I stand on my hind legs and wave my front legs in the air? (You get slammed in the nose.)

We finished up OK though, and even crossed the stream.

Are you in Eastern or Western WA?

I am in the Seattle area and I ride at Bridle Trails. The trails were beautiful, if a little muddy, in the snow.

I’ll put in my request for no snow this weekend . Good luck at your show.

Riverman sounds like a very balanced guy! Congratulations. . .and post a picture!

Tigger, what kind of gym-nasties did The Borg Queen set? I am thinking a tight two stride to a vertical with a V might help Justice with his timing.

Don’t worry. I am not a Borg, much less a Queen. If anything, my horse has assimilated me.

Good luck, Robby, and welcome! I saw the pictures of Kate on Off Course. You and she are going to have so much fun together!

There’s no way you and Merry can make it to SC from California before I get there. He’s such a cutie!!!

Yeehaw, he looks like he’s made to be a hunter!

Pam, I’m so very happy that your greenie is doing wonderfully. Yes I’m very very happy for you. Not the least bit envious or anything. Just very happy for you. But if you ever find yourself getting bored with him (I’ve heard that can happen when they’re too well-behaved, although I wouldn’t know from personal experience)I know of a lovely and challenging mare that would be willing to trade stalls with your guy!

How 'bout posting that cute pic for all of us to see?
