Bumpkin - Sorry to hear about your unexpected dismount, hope your feeling better today… No fun at all having a concussion.

Sounds like most of our greenies have been fresh in this crisp weather.

I would watch that “yanking half way off his feet” if I were you. 2 months ago I was lunging Sophie Moose (she of the “abscess from hell” --4 months and $7000 and counting…) Actually I was not really lunging her, I was trying to graze her and she insisted on lunging herself… But I digress.

At one point she decided to leap into the air. In mid leap, she changed her plan and decided to buck/kick out at me. I decided a good yank was in order and proceeded to execute said plan. Problem was, I flipped her flatter than a pancake. She hit the ground with 4 legs straight out horizontally, rib cage acheiving touch-down first. WHOOOOMMPPHHH!

The air was quickly expelled from her lungs and she just lay there for a minute, glassy eyed. With heart in throat I went up to her and asked her to rise. She struggled up, hung her head and coughed deeply several times. Then looked around as if to say: “What 18 wheeler did I just get run over by?”

Fortunately, that episode did not have long lasting ill effects. But, be aware – it is surprisingly easy to flip a 17 hand horse. I never would have believed it before that day.

The Crazy Pony has been behaving so well lately I’m thinking of promoting him from Really Green to Just Sort of Green. We went on a trail ride on Sunday and galloped in an open field with four other horses. No bucking, no horse racing, actually listened to my every request! it was amazing. And in the ring he has been so willing and responsive the last week or so. My trainer actually complimented me.

He got chiropractored about a month ago, which completely cured our drifting to the right problem.

I’m wondering if sore muscles were causing the attitude problems we have had until recently. He has certainly put on a lot of muscle in the last two months, esp. in the hindquarters and back.

And another, don’t mind my chopped off head, my friends first time with a digital camera. hehe

Ah, the joys of ponying babies! That’s the job of Beezer’s retired Trakehner jumper mare. She’s the resident pony horse, and does indeed discipline any youngsters who dare get out of line.

Well, not only did I have the stupidity to advertise my brother’s worm company, ala “SEDUCER”, but I also had an interesting performance in the eq over class.

So I make this beautiful entrance at the sitting trot, right past the judge, displaying my lovely eq. and flaunting that even at my age, I can look good. I halt right in front of the judge, and prepare for this crisp canter depart. But Hammie doesn’t depart. In fact, he’s frozen. He refuses to move. It is nearly dark, and by golly, he is DONE.

I just sat there, trying to gig him with my outside spur, which of course is in full view of the judge, but Hammie lets everyone know he is just leaning into my leg aid by crushing my stirrup iron against the metal arena railing.Yes, folks, like fingernails on a chalkboard, my four year old is telling the crowd, “Hee-hee, she can’t use her spur when it’s crushed against the rail!” There’s just this loud, whiney, “EEEEKKKKK” while my iron drags across the metal. I just knew Beezer was out there in the crowd, cracking up.

However, I did prevail, and had a lovely course, complete with tidy rollback turns. And I won! So there, Hambolarama!

Step away from that big, fat, black horse, Merry! Step away! Go on, git! Put down that bridle and saddle and STEP AWAY FROM THAT BIG, FAT, BLACK HORSE!!

The current exercise: on one side of the arena, a series of 4 cavaletti. Then there’s a grid of a trot pole, nine feet to one ramped oxer then about 19 feet to a square oxer. Mind you, we begin with the poles literally on the ground, like parallel ground rails. And we finish topping out at 2’6". But that’s an accomplishment, eh?

The Barbie Cow was excellent today. Well, after she fumed about being left tied at the patience pole with her saddle on for a whole 10 minutes. Then when I took her out to lunge her, she bolted off and ripped off the end of my fingernail. After the blood stopped spewing and I had regained my composure, she hacked quite nicely. She moved up the farm animal taxonomic scale. Two days she was a “pig”. Today she is back to being a “cow”. Perhaps by Sunday I can refer to her as a “horse”.

Current box score:
Barbie: 5 Merry: 9

Hmmm… wonder if Merry can change the name of this thread. I think Kermit was on to something

LuckyMe - so glad it worked out for you! And needless to say, I had a chance to use my own advice that very night We spent the first 5 minutes of our ride discussing how the truck parked by the scary side of the ring wasn’t a monster… Then had a great ride, so life was good!

Robby, I am sure we will be seeing more of you over here in our exclusive little club now that you have the right to post here (Us owners of greenies have to be snobby and exclusive about this, it makes up for all the times we have to deal with the other traumas of greendom). Those pics of Kate were great (along with the description).

Tally - you know, that sounds like a good plan. And I can so relate to the working 60 hours and trying to bring a greenie along philosophy. Poor Raven was subjected to that one, and he definitely suffered for it. Fortunately Robbie and RV came along at points in my life when I had at least enough time to ride 5 days a week (OK, so occassionally sleeping was optional, but you get my drift).

As for western saddles, I still have mine in the garage, but I have graduated from a prix de nations (first clue this wasn’t enough saddle was when my trainer refused to ride Raven in it at 3’0, and he has been to a few world cups, so it wasn’t like he didn’t have a seat ), to an Equilibrium (this was better, but I noticed I sort of “accidently” left the trainer’s saddle - a butet - on Robbie after his class, so I could ride in it, as opposed to mine…) Then we finally figured out that Robbie became incredibly back sore whenever the Tad Coffin wool flocked Equilibrium on him, but when we only used the Butet he was fine (so much for the butet = back sore theory). Well that is all the excuse I needed to sell the prix and Equilibrium, and go into debt And my little (hah!) butt hasn’t moved since…

LuckyMe- I know nothing about Paint breeding but I heard I was supposed to be excited about the fact that his grandsire is Smooth N Easy? I dont know. I dont have his papers yet- he ships here on friday.

As for plans for the little bugger- at this point I see his future as being a breed show horse… which is something Ive never done before in respect to doing both english and western. I did AQHA shows for a while as a kid but just the english parts. I dont have any plans to show any time in the recent future- so who knows. Basically all he knows how to do is be sat on. I figure I should teach him to walk trot (jog) canter (lope) like a civilized horse before I decide his future.

I did ride him when I tried him and trotted him… honestly when I saw him lunge I did not think he would make a western horse, he has a HUGE gorgeous A show hack winning trot and a lovely canter. When I got on him- he jogs beautifully… and although I didnt canter him under tack I get the impression that he will lope as well. Hes just a very versatile horse.

As much as I can say I dont have any immediate plans to show him or jumping, if I said that was definetly the case I’d probably be lying to you. Atleast we’re far away from being ready for that.

For the time being I will be riding him english because I dont have a western saddle… but when I get one I will probably do a good bit of western stuff too. I’ve been showing a LOT at A shows for a long time and I’m ready for a break. I figured getting a real paint horse (my hunter is a fake paint lol) would be a good change- something different to do for a while.

here’s a pic of him trotting… the angle is bad… but you can see his trot is pretty impressive. and I was trying to get him to jog at this point, but he really knows absolutely nothing and he didnt understand what the heck I wanted from him.

"She’s gone country… look at them boots, shes gone country… back to her roots, shes gone country, a new kind of suit… SHES GONE COUNTRY!! HERE SHE COMES!!! :stuck_out_tongue:

Yes, I use Nancy. She’s fantastic. He loved her the first time she came out… didn’t like her so much yesterday. Couldn’t understand why she would dare to poke at his back when it hurt!

I had to laugh… someone hacked down from the training center to see one of the trainers, saw him standing in the crossties, and said “he’s adorable… how old is he?” And before I could say anything, Nancy said “5… going on 2.” So well put… she just missed the part about the ADD.

Smugness is it’s own special reward, isn’t it Merry?

Yes, LaurieB, that was the BJC show indeed! You might have seen us, we were the one towering over everyone walking around between rings Or the one insanely leaping in the air in the schooling ring (I tried to avoid that experience!).

I think I am going to lock him in a small paddock with my ponies… Of course he probably doesn’t worry as much about ponies as Ponies With Pilots

Well, our little outing went well for the horse. We didn’t ask for much but what we did ask for went very well.

The child…that is where I need to work now. She was so busy anticipating problems she was her own worst enemy. Sigh

Why don’t both of my ‘children’ get on the same cycle? What’s a mother to do? If I am not careful I will end up in the Long Stirrup (how many years out of showing does it take to be in this catagory?) or the Nervous Adult Division.

You know how evergreen branches are darker green on top and lighter green underneath. Well, last year my greenie was afraid of evergreen branches if he could see the underside. If we encountered an upside down branch on the trail or in a brush box he would slam on the brakes and inspect it very closely. Darker green branches didn’t bother him at all. Thankfully he got over his fear of light-green because we live in the evergreen state. Now I think he has moved onto fearing yellow flowers.

Headsup is that 4white socks? Oh he is so totally CUTE! What is he doing?

Why do I have visions that this exercise will be coming to an El Ranchito near me soon??

(As a side note, I’d like to tell the class that Tigger, aka Mr. Perfect, stands like a rock to have his mane pulled and be clipped. His humom doesn’t even need a helper, as proved again today. In fact, when she inspected him post-clipping and de-haltering and noticed a few stray hairs, she was able to just put a hand over his nose and clip him sans halter! So take THAT, Hammie! )

JRG: Hammie had a sliced coronet band on his front foot, too. But it happened when he was just two, so it’s long since grown out. But it did leave a funky permanent scarring of his hoof, even when it did grow out. But hey, like he was going to be a strip horse, anyway.

Today’s adventure: Hambolarama gets bitted up in the chambon and lunged. Oh yeah, that’ll be fun.

A black eye?
That is awful.

Try some Arnica Oil, (I may have spelled it wrong), it really helped the pain and bruising on my lower back.

Justice – Is your boy coming all the way to Ky for the finals? Or are you talking about regionals?

If the finals, I will make sure to watch and cheer. I will also be prepared to bribe him with his favorite treatie. What is it?

He’s an appendix. I believe, because he came off a racing QH ranch, but he’s not tattooed. His name is… “Sinclair” but needless to say, it has already morphed into “Sam”.
