Have been looking at the CO shadow back protector. Unfortunately, I am no longer a size 8.
Are there any alternatives out there that will give some back protection & fit under a hunt coat?
I am aware that they do not give as much protection as a full vest. I have one, & am not interested in another, so please just options for the lightweight back protectors that can be worn under a hunt coat.
My understanding is no vests offer any meaningful protection for the spine, even the fully certified ones. If you’re looking for something lightweight I would look at air vests, otherwise I’d save the money.
Make sure that you actually try one on while sitting in your saddle to make sure that it isn’t too long.
The Tipperary protective vests are often too long for some people and ride up when you’re in the saddle. I am Petite and had to get a youth vest. A friend’s is too long for her when she’s in her dressage saddle.
I now ride in a Helite Air Vest over my jacket.
Airowear and Champion both make back protectors (in addition to full protective vests). The Champion is definitely available in Large (women’s) at Dover.
Just Googling, I see that TuffRider also makes a woman’s back protector.
Stubben makes one that looks like it should fit under a coat
