He is shod. The nail lines have broken down. His walls look like cottage cheese and there is nowhere a nail can grab.
Hope that helps.

That would be my horse too, if done every 4 weeks. There is a cost to driving holes into a wallā¦nailholes leave damage.
The good news is that this really shouldnāt take too long to fix if you can go barefoot, or use glue ons or boots for a couple of trim cycles. Itās a tough time of year to do that, though, at least in NY. When itās not raining the ground is like concrete. Pulling shoes at this time of year is rough on horses that need them.
thanks. Agreed. Itās a lousy time of year for this. We have 2 back feet doing ok. One front expoxied I expect to lose any day now and one front thatās done. Heās in an easy boot on it and sore - which is killing me. Everyone ( vet, farrier, chiro and massage) says " time" and I know they are right. But I hate it.
It will still take time, but I started feeding Green Mountain Hoof Beat to my horses and have seen a huge improvement. When I started it my pony had been on it 5 weeks when my farrier came and we were both surprised to see almost 1/2" of excellent new hoof already grown.
Do you have boots for the front? Iād consider at least 2-3 weeks in boots if you can swing it to get some of the broken wall to grow outā¦or glue some shoes on for 4 weeks if you can. My farrier got my mare over some rough times with skillfully applied acrylic and/or shoes. Sometimes nails and acrylic, if he had any places to drive a nail.
Gotcha. That makes more sense than what I was picturing.
we have boots now - got two. Have one one
We got 2 weeks on expoxy and skilful nails on the booted one. On week three on the other one. Cross fingers.
Looks like we we are now also dealing with an abscess. Get the horse. Itāll be fun they said! Ha.
