Badminton 2018

Bit of a scare for Jonty Evans. What a shame.

contrast Jonty screaming for help for the horse, trying to physically break the back rail with his own shoulder to free the horse, compared to the next rider on the grey horse who fell - he barely looked at his horse as he led it away.
terribly unsympathetic reaction from that rider

I noticed that too. He didn’t even look at him to see if he was lame.

Oh no! Madeline fell.

nice YOU TUBE video stream already posted

OH NO IM TOO OLD FOR THIS GAME

That’s from last year

brave to try the straight route, but perhaps the slightly longer route would have been a wiser choice for a badminton first timers.

Oh darn. Disappointing for Will Coleman.

DOH!!!

Did everyone, people and horses, come out of cross country unhurt? I hope to watch the replay when it is up. (I see I’ll have to wait until Monday). It looks as though no one made the time?

Happy for Lauren and Selena!! Go USA!

Are they still holding? Eventing Nation’s coverage hasn’t updated for a while.

Oop, never mind, there it is.

Ollie Townend 's horse looking a bit tired but my goodness this will be an exciting stadium tomorrow. He was one second over time.

and quite some use of the whip

Listening to at least one rider’s comment - apparently it warmer than normal there today? Perhaps that’s contributing to some of the horses being a bit more gassed at the end. OT saying the weather is hot and the ground is tacky.

Lauren Kieffer in 7th going into show jumping tomorrow.

Yes. Our spring has psychosis this year. A week ago it was snowing in some parts of the country, the last two days are +15 degrees (celcius) warmer than earlier this week. Two weeks ago we had a couple of glorious spring days but they were short lived. Even though the weather was warm most events were still cancelled because the ground was far too wet even by our standards… I’m not surprised they think horses were struggling, I haven’t been able to watch today sadly.

All people and horses OK, and Will Coleman needs a slap, so far.
No news on Alexander Bragg ?

A lot of the whip action did not touch the horse. He did say that he was a “nappy beggar”.

Pretty good day of sport; Seems like overall a higher completion percentage than usual for the event, but that is based on a quick look at the scoring and my impressions rather than any numbers based analysis. Some scary looking falls but sounds like no serious jumping-related injuries to either horses or people.

Sad Will Coleman didn’t have a better go. With that dressage test, I think a strong finish would have made him a pretty good WEG contender.

Largely irrelevant observation - fun to see so many of the riders sporting distinctive xc colors. Seems like in the US, xc fashion has trended toward black and white with only a touch of color - and I see that even trickling down to the junior riders.
