Loved how he looked yesterday.
Don’t think I’d ever looked at his ancestry before. </chef’s kiss>
Omg Abdullah AND Deputy Minister?? What a combo. DM is my absolute fav TB line ( I have 3 ).
That is a very interesting pedigree. Not a combo I’d have picked, but his pedigree got more interesting the further I clicked back.
Cult Hero has a nice following. If memory is serves he was based in Ireland despite being Canada-bred. I have seen a few horses by him go through Goresbridge. I know he was on the radar of several Brit yards for a while, and he’s had a few at this level already besides Ollie’s horse. Interestingly (or not), he seems to have sired some tricky horses – which is funny because nothing about his pedigree on the dam or sire side screams ‘tricky’ to me.
I wasn’t a DM fan for a long time, but I think his sons have proven me wrong. Silver Deputy is among his best from an eventing perspective. That’s not to diminish Cult Hero’s damline contribution – he would not be anywhere near as nice if he hadn’t come from a strong female family (imo).
I just double checked and two of my girls are Silver Deputy grandsire and one is War Deputy.
The thing the three of them all have in common is an incredible work ethic and above average mover.
Not sure if that’s because of him but that’s my anecdotal evidence ahha
Rewatching today’s dressage session.
As much as I look up to and massively respect the top GB riders, I do think they receive some VERY generous marks at Badminton…
Who? How so?
I just really really miss Pam Hutton’s saucy dressage commentary. It’s all just a bit too . . . dry and dull are the words that come to mind . . . without her.
You’re right! There was something missing and you’ve nailed it. Might check Badminton radio instead because I’ve heard it’s hilarious.
Right.
I’m a big Mr Prospector fan, too.
Just watched their dressage test from this morning.
Swallow Springs oozes athleticism.
Angela Tucker was on panel at Kentucky and now Badminton so should be fairly consistent. IMO the best of the bunch at Kentucky vs Badminton will be about the same but the bunch might be a bit bigger at Badders, more entries is part of the reason. The very bottom of the pack is about the same at both. It’s the middle where I think the standard is a bit higher in UK therefore you get the bigger cluster of marks in the low 30s.
Appreciate your analysis. Makes me wonder where Ms. Tucker is seated.
For instance, what the heck happened here at the final movement? This is Tom Jackson and Capels Hollow Drift. They earned two 8s and one 6.5. I’d give my mother’s blue cheese dressing recipe for that halt and salute. 6.5?
Edited to add: this is at about 30 minutes into the second of the five Friday tests.
Ah, got it. Ms. Tucker is at C.
How silly. Badminton is more important than Prince Charles’ coronation.
Yes but it wouldn’t have inspired confidence in the nation if there had been a small crowd for the coronation because everyone was watching the cross-country at Badminton. That’s probably why they moved the cross-country to Sunday. Although in hindsight they could have moved the coronation instead.
What time (EST) is cross-country being streamed tomorrow morning?
Tomorrow is Saturday, so it is scheduled for 11:30 am Badminton time, less 5 hours time difference, then add 24 hrs rescheduling difference.
So, 6:30 am ET on Sunday May 7th.
Still waist deep in the dressage – freaking work messed with my Badminton viewing – Gemma Tattersall/Stevens’ Jalapeno simply explodes every molecule of the chestnut mare mythology.
What a lovely horse.
Weather looking decidedly dodgy; it’s been an unusual year here in that the Scottish/Northern events have been less likely to cancel or abandon due to wet weather than the Sourh.
BHT Facebook page just posted a few alterations to XC.
Cross Country Course Alterations as at 12.30 Saturday 6th May
Due to the weather conditions at Badminton, the following alterations are being made to the cross country course:
Fence 15 Lightsource BP Pond - hardcore stone footing placed behind the B element.
Fence 17 The Lemieux Mound – the B element is to be removed.
Fence 21 The Badminton Lake – the water level is to be lowered.
Fence 26 The Jubilee Clump Brush – some decoration around the fence will be removed to make it a smoother line on the approach.
Fence 27 The HorseQuest Quarry – A element to be removed.
There is no alteration to the optimum time, time allowed or distance.
Any word on why Vermiculus was withdrawn from both Kentucky and Badminton?
