Badminton Horse Trials 2023

Lauren withdrew Landmark’s Monte Carlo after dressage at Kentucky, so perhaps she is not 100% well herself?

Some drama over the fences.

I agree with WFP though. That fence seems designed to get pins which works against everything you want when horses are jumping into water. Pins deciding the winners is making it seem more like a game of chance.

Horse safety is the future of the sport. It was a pleasure to watch LRK3DE.

This actually could create a more unsafe jump into the water. It’s a penalty grab. JMO

More unsafe in what way? The course designer said it was to prevent horse falls. Genuine question.

Wow, re: that article in H&H!

“There are so many pins you could make a dress!” Attributed to one of the other competitors in the field, but William Fox-Pitt is really taking issue with the log drop into the water! He actually sounds, um, hot under the collar. Wants all the other riders to boycott the straight route and use the alternate route.

Eric retorts! (You just need to read the article )

But seriously, this is a lot of controversy over one jump – and now I’m really interested to see how many riders wind up taking the straight route, how it rides, how many people get the 11 point penalty there, and how easy the MIM clip is to displace.

Interesting these modern, safer times…

It’s hard to argue with Eric on last time there was a log here, there were horse falls and it’s not acceptable to see horses sprawled out across the Badminton Lake.
It’s a relatively low fence, he’s not asking them to jump full height for the drop in.

Still trudging through the soaking wet dressage from today. Came here to say I’m fully in love with Arklow Puissance, Wills Oakland riding.
If anyone knows more about this horse, please share.

Perfect. Thank you.
My RID disorder, well and good showing up this weekend.

Dry overnight. Sunshine this morning. It is going to be an interesting day of cross country riding as there is one run out to differentiate between some 40 horses.

Irish bred, by Puissance out of a Cruising mare. Originally the ride of Oli Townend who took it to 4*, Wills took on the ride at the beginning of last year. He’s absolutely stunning in the flesh - Wills is local to me so I’ve seen the horse out a few times and have written for his dressage a couple of times.

Trying to access the livestream. The payment is asking for a “voucher”. Anyone know what that is?

If you just click process payment without a voucher it will go through. Must be a promo code.

Unpopular opinion but I can’t stand watching SS and OT together. Just me yelling at the TV to pull up

Watching XC - finding it odd that the female commentator is so quickly saying “that horse is fine” after having issues on course. I’m thinking one of the horses who had issues might not be “fine.” Just odd that she is saying that so quickly after issues.

Same … same. Just wow.

That frangible table saved from a horse fall 1000% (Ollie & SS).

Seeing a lot of horses getting tired 1/2-3/4 way around the course… wonder if it’s because of heavy footing or not getting enough prep runs in this season…

And so NOT a fan of OT, especially after his run on SS this morning. Horrible rider decisions- he should pull up before there is a worse accident
