Badminton Horse Trials 2023

This course and conditions are really chewing up the dressage leaderboard.

It might be tempting for some riders who are yet to go to think that their horse will not be as affected by the conditions. If they can make good time, they could really move up the leaderboard.

But that might not be the smart ride.

Is there a contest for ugliest ride down the staircase?

right?!

Thought Levett’s round was super hairy and can’t believe Kristina hasn’t pulled up by now.

Tom crisp at least had some humor for his swim :swimming_man:‍♂ :joy:

Thankfully, Kristina’s mare did look keener at the end, I thought, but before that I was wishing she’d pull up, cause it had been hairy.

I missed what led to Quindiva’s retirement??

So glad both Americans got around with no jumping faults.

It must feel absolutely awful trying to gallop an exhausted horse that’s barely scraping itself over the fences?

And they looked good, too. Calm and competent.

Yes that! So many are barely coming off the ground, and not landing well.

I don’t want to jinx her, but I like Emily King’s horse.

Oh, no! Wonder what happened there.

Emily seemed to pull up, the horse did not glance off the corner in the water. Hope they interview her and get her thoughts.

Georgia herself looked exhausted at pull up

Yes I think the riders are also feeling it. They are having to ride like mad to get the horses over. Lifting and urging. Re-thinking alternatives.

And also may be making constant decisions. Do we continue or not? Can I get this horse over this one or not? That is very wearing.

So far 8 retirements, 14 elims.

I think most of the eliminations were rider falls.

The pre-CC scratches - is the number on par with previous years/comparable competitions?
