Badminton;

I would not be surprised if there was a clause in the sponsors contracts about this. They’ve paid lots of money to have their name on a jump, they really do not need permanently available ‘official’ video of something very bad happening with their logo in the background.

Coming soon: course designer could pull riders off course and give DR penalties….

I am still confused. How is watching video of the fall(s) at, for instance, the bounce at Badminton, going to be useful in any way to the designer of a schooling (and lower level) horse trial?

I was doing a lot of sitting up and whoa!ing when watching the speed some of those came into that bounce at.

There’s so much I love about America, and the equine world there, but for the love of all that is holy, I really detest the term, the jog. It’s a trot up, or the horse inspection. Jog, to me, is lacklustre, and lazy - not what you want your horse to display when in front of vets and officials.

Fair point :joy:

Lol hated that word ‘jog’ for the reasons you said. When I was a runner and doing marathon training, people would ask if I was going jogging. Uh no…I don’t jog…I run. Slow probably but I run, I don’t jog…gah hated that word!! Anyways, carry on!

People would ask me if I was going out for a run and I would reply “Good grief, no! I can’t run. I only jog. Slowly”.

My grey had dark hooves as well, we always used clear hoof polish

He was on the Olympic team in 2012 & the WEG team in 2018. And Pam Ams I forget which year.

Another update on Nicola’s fb today:

An update on Nicola, she is still in the icu at Southmead Hospital in Bristol following her fall from JL Dublin at Badminton Horse Trials on Saturday 7th May.

Nic is still in intensive care, and is expected to remain there for the next week to ten days, before being moved to a spinal unit closer to home. She remains comfortable and in good spirits.

Dubs is happy and content, and is enjoying the sunshine and the spring grass.

Nic, Alastair and Mary would like to thank everyone at Southmead Hospital for the outstanding care and attention she is getting from the expert team there. They would also like to say how grateful they are for all of the messages of support they have had.

Oh, that does not sound great. I’m assuming with how things work, no upper limb function means no lower limb function either. When she fell she went so instantly limp and then did not move at all. That was the part of the fall that was so horrifying to me.

I’m hoping the fact that she’s regained feeling in the arms/hands and has been breathing on her own the entire time is a good sign!

That’s what I’m wondering. I know nothing about spinal injuries though. I’m really praying hard for her. Just a quick google gives this:

So happy to see this video update from Nicola Wilson via her Facebook page. I don’t know how to paste that in directly, so here is the link to the EN story… Hopefully you can follow it from there. In summary, she says her legs have always been “quite good” and that her right arm is getting much better; her left arm is not as good but coming along. Wonderful to see her smiling, talking, and sitting up in a chair outside.

That video was wonderful. What a great lady.

I’ve finally found the winner of the Grooms award! I think grooms should get very nice prizes and a check. The article doesn’t say what prizes are awarded.

Each groom also gets £200 when their horse runs xc.
