Bar Bar A Waterer Warning

A quick warning to anyone looking to purchase one of these waterers.

I purchased one on 3/30/2025. The waterer was shipped very fast and arrived safely. I am EXTREMELY happy with the waterer so far. I’m hoping it will do well through winter as well.

My concern has to do with a leak of my card information and email address that were used during the purchase. Within 2 weeks of my purchase my bank caught several fraudulent charges on my account, I also began recieving fraudulent emails. I called the company and they discounted my concern, stating my bank was more than likely the culprit. Well it has been a full month since the issue, no other locals have had issues with that bank, and the bank has not reported a vunerability.

My friend purchased a waterer the beginning of April and was informed by her CC company today that they caught several fraudulent charges. She called Bar Bar A this morning who again stated they have not found any issues on their end.

I believe the company has a current vunerability within their website or an employee is selling people’s information. I would recommend using caution if deciding to purchase from them, perhaps find a different waterer.

I im incredibly disappointed in the company’s response to our concerns as I had planned on purchasing several more waterers and had other people ready to buy but it is not worth the potential risk.

Information is stolen in so many places so easily now it is probably hard to point a finger at where it actually happens.

I am sorry you are going through this. I hope it all gets figured out.

Glad the waterer is great.

Wow! That is awful. Thank you.

They must have a soft point in their system. Someone has gotten in and is happily skimming info. It’s silly that two different people have reported the same concerns and the company hasn’t done some kind of system check. Generally the vendor of the software will do those.

I use a virtual card for purchases online. The security code changes often, the last 4 digits of the card are different for purchases where you hand them your card, and for applepay. You can also change the card number at any time.
It is also handy if your card can be set up to send you a txt anytime it is used that way you will catch a fraudulent charge right away.

Well that’s clever. For all the online shopping I do, this sounds great. What’s a good resource to get started?

My virtual card is an Apple card. I received the offer directly from Apple. According to google AmEx, Citi and Capital One also offer them. Check with your bank and see if one is available.

eta My Apple card does not txt me, but all the charges shown are in my apple wallet. My chase card txt me, so I sometimes use that for specific things even though it isn’t virtual. I have had that card number stolen 3 or 4 times over the years before I started mostly using the virtual card.
