Barbaro ~ America's Horse

Wow. I can’t believe you actually wrote this. Heartless…absoutely freaking heartless.

Though I haven’t posted on this forum for many months, I just heard the news and had to come here first to share in the collective grief. My first thoughts of such a special horse bring tears to my eyes, as i think of the pain all his loved ones are going through. Yet a moment later, I start thinking I shouldn’t cry… he was such a miracle of a creature and part of me feels no one should cry for such a champion, such a triumph of heart and spirit over the conifnes of fragile physical life. Surely wherever that spirit is now it’s flying, and would hesitate in confusion to see us grieve. Without sounding too corny, let’s all try to celebrate the wonderful creature that Barbaro was, and take heart in the love and solidarity that such an animal can inspire. THANK YOU Barbaro… Thank you to everyone who displayed such a winning spirit in such trying times. It’s given us all a lesson in the true meaning of grace, dignity and courage.

I can, and it’s my final straw. Now to figure out how to put TS on permenant ignore…

Rest in Peace Bobby…may you never lose the look of the eagles…Go run with the greats! Go flirt with Pine Island and challenge Lost in the fog! They will be there to meet you!

I read this poem when I lost my beloved dog and best friend Cassie six years ago, I thought it said eveyrthing then, and it says everything now.

God saw you were getting tired
and it was not meant to be.
So he put his arms around you
and whispered “come to me”
With tearful eyes we watched you
and saw you pass away.
Although we loved you dearly
we could not make you stay.
A golden heart stopped beating
hard working hooves put to rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us
he only takes the best!
A million times we’ve needed you
and a million times we’ve cried.
If love alone could have saved you,
you never would have died.
A heart of gold stopped beating;
Two fighting eyes closed to rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us
he only takes the best.

Johanna

maybe they should do a labotomy on you and send that for research on how someone could be so hurtful and mean to those that actually cared about this horse. Go away already, nobody wants to read what you say, and you are just causing more grief. Basta already.

Any news if his legs will be amputated and used for further research?[/QUOTE]

And I didn’t think it could get any worse! Absolutely incredible!

Devastated.

RIP to a wonderful horse who inspired us all.

My heartfelt sympathies to his loved ones.

Barbaro will never be forgotten. He fought as hard as he could and is now at peace. Wishing the best to family and friends…

As devastating as this news is to me and other Barbaro fans, I can’t begin to imagine the heartbreak the Jacksons, Dr. Richardson, Michael Matz, Edgar Prado and everyone who knew and cared for Barbaro must be feeling. Barbaro, you will be deeply missed, but never, ever forgotten. Godspeed, special boy.

I think an incredible amount of learning could be gained by veterinary and podiatry students. Many horse owners donate legs to research so that other horses can be helped or saved from knowledge gained. I myself learned a tremendous amount from examining cadaver legs from a poor mare that foundered and went to her eternal rest. Several of us learned a lot from that one little mare. I think much could be learned from Barbaro.

He had more good days than he did bad.
He had 8 more months of life, He lived to be four years old (which is a long time when you are only three)
He got more attention and treats in those 8 months than most horses do in a lifetime.
The owners did the right thing.

Don’t forget all the good times he probably had as a baby in the field. Out running his mates.

Thank you Barbaro for giving people something to believe in. You gave people a chance to hope for a miracle and you didn’t give up, even when many thought you should have. The soul of a Thoroughbred is an amazing thing. Rest in peace.

RIP Barbaro - your heart, courage and fight to win will never be forgotten.

I grieve with his owners, trainers, handlers, those who knew him, the medical staff who cared for him and all of us who checked this thread once, twice, multiple times a day. He has done so much for all of us, for our horses, for those to come, and especially for those of his breed who were “thrown away” following career ending injury. He may possibly be the cause of a national ban on horse slaughter. He may be greater now than any other horse in memory – deservedly so.

RIP Barbaro:cry:

It is so hard to type that and hit the submit button…

My heart is absolutely broken and the tears just keep falling after learning of Barbaro’s passing. I had so hoped this wonderful, courageous boy would win this battle too.

Godspeed, Dear Barbaro - you managed to bring a nation together and you will always be remembered as America’s Horse.

I think they already have learned and know what happened. I don’t think they need to cut on him any more. There are plenty of other horses out there for research. He should rest in peace.

Two Simple, if your own horse were were to founder tomorrow and begin to suffer greatly, would you immediately have him/her put down? Of course then you could dissect the hooves for research purposes…
