Barbaro ~ America's Horse
If you look closely, the jockey doesn’t have bug eyes. I believe what you are seeing are the air vents at the edge of the googles.

I just checked and the current bid is $7300.00. I hope it makes it to $10,000.00! :)
Yes, I see it as an air vent now  But if it was hanging on my wall I think I’d always see it as a bug eye first.

You know how crass the liberal press is. No class what so ever.

It made me furious also.
Yeah, stupid classless liberals. They ruin everything.

So glad I’m not alone!

I couldn’t agree more! well put…

Just what we need… the Barbaro thread turns into a bash those pinko commie liberals and their evil ways thread. fantastic!

Does anyone know how the funds from the various Barbaro funds are getting split up? Laminitis research vs new equipment? Nothing meant by it just curious…

Not sure exactly, but it’s my understanding that the vast majority of the money goes to laminitis research. I do know for a fact that it has been used to purchase some very needed new equipment for the hospital to benefit Barbaro and others in his condition. Like a MUCH needed additional Anderson sling so we don’t have to draw straws to see which horse in need gets it today (Barbaro always won).

The NTRA is auctioning of an original Barbaro painting on eBay to raise money for its Barbaro Memorial Fund (Barbaro Painting Doing Well on eBay), we have linked to this auction and other FOB fundraisers on a new FOB fundraising page. If you are planning a fundraiser, or selling items for FOBs that raise money for related equine causes, feel free to use this page.

For those wanting to see the clips of Barbaro they created for us on Youtube, I added them to a new Barbaro page. My favorite is the first clip.

VB:

Great page!!! Thanks so much for creating and sending.

Maybe it’s me, but I still have a really difficult time watching the video clips. I will save the site and keep trying. Surely at some point it will become easier, won’t it?:frowning:

Thanks Alex~
Mrs. Jackson left a nice long voice-mail. The upshot of it was her gratitude for all the work FOBs are doing for horses. She was particularly effusive in her praise for yesterday’s efforts in Illinois. Everyone should be proud.

VB: Do you know who took the picture of Barbaro being led w/white wraps on that is on the new Barbaro page? I think it was taken when he arrived at Pimlico. He looks like he knows he’s on top of the world. I’d love to buy a print. Thanks!

Laminitis

In Barbaro’s Memory could everyone that was so touched by this horse and the good that has come from him, please go light a candle for all those who are now faced with what can happen when they are faced with the uncertainty of a lamintic horse!!
I am now feeling the pain myself with my own horse and would love to see the candles burning for the great Barbaro and all those lost and fighting laminitis!!! Please Light a Candle!!!

That’s a part of Alex’s excellent site.

That looks like a Barbara Livingston photo to me.

VB ~ Thank you as always for the videos!

Always, ALWAYS, makes me cry when he turns for home, look close and he just perks his ears up for a moment  and then just knows what he is there to do…

We will never forget you Barbaro!

Susan Sommer-Luarca’s “Barbaro”
[Original Painting of Barbaro Winning the Kentucky Derby to be Auctioned in Support of NTRA Charities - Barbaro Memorial Fund

Acclaimed artist Susan Sommer-Luarca’s portrait “Barbaro,” a 5’ by 4’ tonal acrylic on canvas that was painted at Churchill Downs during Kentucky Derby week this year and signed by jockey Edgar Prado, has been donated to the National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA) and will be auctioned off on eBay to benefit the NTRA Charities - Barbaro Memorial Fund.
The painting is available for bidding on eBay May 22, with a starting price of $5,000. Bidding will continue through May 31.
“I tried to capture on my canvas the beauty, strength and elegance of this magnificent Kentucky Derby champion,” said Sommer-Luarca. “It was my desire to capture the magical essence of Barbaro and the magic of his movement. And I feel very fortunate that my artwork can support the NTRA Charities - Barbaro Memorial Fund.”
The Barbaro Memorial Fund was created to raise awareness and money for equine health and safety research in the name of 2006 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands winner Barbaro, whose gallant struggle to overcome a catastrophic injury captivated horse enthusiasts around the world. Monies raised by the Barbaro Memorial Fund will support equine research projects, including those that focus on laminitis, the painful and often fatal hoof disease that plagued Barbaro for so much of his recuperative period following his injury in the 2006 Preakness Stakes. Those wishing to make cash donations to the NTRA Charities - Barbaro Memorial Fund may do so at www.ridingwithbarbaro.org.
