Barbaro ~ America's Horse
It will be interesting who will play who - I think Tom Hanks would make a very good Michael. I have no idea who would play Peter though, he is so legendary he might have to play himself. I am thinking with a bit make up Smarty Jones would make a great Messaging!
Hmmm… I’m not crazy about Tom Hanks for Michael, but it’s better than anything I got. We were all stumped on him anyway.

We had tossed around the idea of Gary Stevens for Peter, but we thought that would make it too Seabiscuit-like. Plus Gary doesn’t have Peter’s cool accent. And Peter deserves a better actor, lol.

We spent way too much time “casting” our Barbaro movie…

I think they oughta get DR to play himself!

Funny, that’s what he said too!

I stopped following this thread ages ago, so forgive me if this is a repeat, but there is a pretty in-depth article on Barbaro in the current Vanity Fair.

The beginning annoyed me as typical non-horseperson crapola. However, the description of his last days and his death were truly poignant.

I didn’t have an opinion before on whether or not he should have been put down sooner. I do have an opinion on that now.

It comes full circle. DR wanted to be an actor

Richard Gere for Michael, but Richard would need to cut his hair. Both have GREAT smiling eyes!

I’m lousy with actor’s names but how about the guy that played the male lead in Titanic for Peter. Leon Decaprio or something like that. Doesn’t he have a british accent?

Jane Seymour for Gretchen.

Agreed that Dr Dean should play himself (presuming he can sort of act).

Any thoughts for someone to play Mr. Jackson??

As long as we’re being silly, I think Russell Crowe should play DR. I have a crush on both of them

Silly my foot!!! I think someone needs to contact Peter Berg with our recommendations!

I wonder if a book of the Jacksons’ favored letters, cards, etc they have received would prove popular to readers while the proceeds could go to the Barbaro Fund?
I once saw a book of letters to Seabiscuit. It was really cute and touching, and I think a book of Barbaro letters would go over really well. I’d certainly buy it.

A Book Suggestion

I did mention in the letter to the Jacksons suggesting a book of correspondence, letters and cards etc they had received regarding Barbaro and his injury from fans and well-wishers. I think it would be really heartwarming and proceeds could go the Barbaro Fund or Laminitis Fund.

Vanity Fair

I just picked up a copy of Vanity Fair magazine with the Barbaro article – the photo of Barbaro in the Preakness showing the extreme angle of his injured limb really ‘brings it home’ how shockingly severe it was.

From the summer issue of Bellwether:

After 3 long months I have also lost my horse to laminititis, please don’t forget the candel’s and the barbaro fund!!!

Barbaro ‘Halo’ T shirt

Is it OK to ask where to obtain the Barbaro t-shirts with the halo above his name? I cannot locate them, although I had the website once before. Thanks.

Just to let you know - tomorrow Ready Set, owned by the Jackson’s, trained by Michael and ridden by Edgar will be running in the second race at the Spa. Everyone stopped by this morning to say hi - I was busy digging the ditch for the storm that never came.

I DON’T KNOW IF IS OK, but I have been trying also to get the ball cap with the rose around it, I did get one but not that one on ridingwithbarbaro.com
It would mean a lot to me to have that cap!!

I’m so sorry…

My most sincere condolences. It is an awful disease to have to fight, and watch, and be defeated by.

Godspeed to your dearest friend…

I’m so sorry for your loss.

Thank You
I now know what they all must have felt like I also did everything I could, but when nothing is working you have to pull your heart away.
With love comes grief.

Not forgotten

I was talking horse racing with a friend. She is an old time sort. Grew up hand walking horses at the track. Rode Point to Points as a young women.
She never has alot of emotion…unless she is talking about Barbaro.

She said that in the last seveal years he was the first horse that gave Amreica something to believe in. Even before his injury.

She called him perfect having only one flaw…

He ran faster than his angles could fly.
