Long story short, I have a mare who is basically retired due to a wither injury. She will never be back in full work, but she LOVES to work, is completely healed and sound and a bit of a spitfire, always wanting to get out and have a job (mares… gotta love em…). I’ve been doing a lot of in hand work, it’s been fun!
Anyways, the point of my question… I think she may tolerate and greatly enjoy short hacks and mini trail rides ridden at a walk, but I’d like to try it with a comfortable bareback pad for her. I’d like to find something that stays in place well (I’m over slippery bareback pads lol) and that has some form of protection that helps distribute weight a bit (I know, asking a lot for a bareback pad). I’m willing to spend some money on this. If she doesn’t like it, that’s fine, I can use it on other horses. But if she does like it, I’d be over the moon.
I’ve been looking at the thinline bareback pads, which I’m about ready to order… but I wanted to see if there were some other good options out there that others might recommend.
Thanks!!
eta: a pad that has wither clearance either by way of high clearance or cut-out is ideal!
