Barn Heaters

Does anyone have a good recommendation for a heater for my tack room?

I just want to keep my tack room above freezing this winter. The space is about 12’x13’ with 7.5’ ceilings and I am looking for heating recommendations.

Due to the layout baseboard heaters are just not going to be an option. Looking for something that is either wall or ceiling mount.

I was looking at these heaters:

Until I read that they had to be mounted 1.8m above the ground and .5m from the ceiling so I do not have enough headroom.

Really wishing I had put in floor heating in before pouring the concrete but it seemed like such an expense at the time…

Consider an oil-filled radiator.

Cheap - around $30-40 here - & I used one to heat my below-grade 12X16 Master Bath, tiled on the floor & 1/2 up the walls <concrete base under the floor tile.
Kept it warm & toasty (& doubled as a towel-warmer) when the baseboard heat failed to do more than keep it above freezing.

I have this one in my tack room: http://cadetheat.com/products/garage-heaters/RCP

It has a thermostat, auto shutoff if it gets overheated, and you can run just the fan which I love for those humid days to help keep the mold off my tack.

I’m always nervous when it comes to using any kind of space heater (including the oil filled ones) in the barn. They get SO HOT and as much dust as there is in the barn, I don’t want anything catching fire.

We use an oil filled radiator. We do not use one that is on wheels, our tack room is a little too tiny for that.
What we have… http://www.a2zcamping.co.uk/user/products/large/600-Watt-Mini-Oil-Filled-Radiator-Heater.jpg

We have a hook on the ceiling of the tack room in the corner, have a chain that wraps around one of the sections and it hangs from the ceiling. This way the cats don’t burn their faces on it. We know this because we had cats that did that, so had to take it off the ground. Silly buggers.

Heater is great, takes the chill out, hangs all day and night, on all the time, all winter. Love it, and my tack appreciates it! The dial is great so you don’t have to have it too hot. Oil Filled is definitely safer than an electric coil one.

ETA- We’ve been using the same one for 6 years, no issues.

another vote for the oil filled rad…one keeps my kitchen at a liveable temp all winter and enough heat spills over to keep the bedroom at a nice sleeping temperature. The get hot enough to keep the room warm but don’t get so hot they burn stuff and all have an automatic tip-over shut-off

We use this infrared heater for our tack room and it works great. It is not hot at all, even at the opening, and is one of the safer heater to use in a barn (of course nothing is 100% safe). The only downfall that I have is the lowest setting is 16C (60F) which is quite warm for a tack room, but I do use it anyway.

Our tack room is 16’ x 8’ with 7’ high ceiling and the heater has no problem heating up that space. I just sit it on the floor of the tack room and have it set for the lowest setting at 16C. We bought it at home hardware for under $200 2 years ago. It takes very little hydro as well so that’s a nice bonus.

Heres a picture of it in our tack room before we did the plastic lamanite flooring. It takes up little floor space and works great.

Can you provide more identifying information for those of us who would like to search online to purchase? Make, model, etc?

Yes, of course

I have the Dyson heater/fan in my tack room. Does a great job, and no coils, and tip-over safety feature. I have good electric, but I love the fact that dust, or in my case, cat hair, doesn’t create issues.

Tack room here has an oil filled heater, with a great thermostat. Just set it for above freezing, and it holds it temp right there.

Resurrecting an old thread…

Do people have new recommendations for brands and features in oil-filled radiators for feed/tack rooms?

I have a 12x12 feed/tack room that I’d like to keep warmer than freezing. Preferably in the 40’s.
Seems like an oil-filled radiator would be a good way to go.
I’m very concerned (like everyone!) about safety.

Are there particular brands and features that I should look for?

Thanks in advance!
