Anyone have equestrian-inspired party game ideas? There will be a mix of adults and children, heavier on the adult side.
no games, just socialize. One thing that an old trainer used to do at our annual holiday party was she would make this giant list of good and funny things that happened to each of us throughout the year - sort of a humorous milestone type thing. And then we’d do the gift exchange but that can be difficult when there is a mix age group unless you divide up the presents to be kid zone and adult zone. You don’t need a 10 year stuck with a bottle of brandy or an adult stuck with my pretty pony.
I have done a few fun trivia type games, for example taking a picture of the horses stalls in the morning, and having people guess whose dirty stall it is/was. This year I am going to trace some of their hooves, and have people guess whose hoof it is, and take close up pictures of odd horse details and see if people can guess which horse. I am trying to think of a third, but if I can’t, I may also have a poop throwing contest. We did that once before for a Halloween party, and it was quite entertaining.
Who can take apart and put together a bridle (correctly!) the quickest, or blindfolded.
Do you have an indoor? You could do three legged races, musical sacks, sack races, piggy back races (kids are the riders), or set up and obstacle course and have kids ride or lead adults through it - no talking allowed, so it’s a bit like handling a horse.
Chinese gift exchange-- always entertaining. Otherwise I probably would just let people socialize-- you could always do something like put out plain horse cookies to decorate-- or ornaments like these and some markers https://www.etsy.com/listing/557883433/horse-ornament-blank-christmas-ornament?gpla=1&gao=1&&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=shopping_us_christmas_Craft_Supplies_and_Tools&utm_custom1=3477b4bb-0090-4364-9616-7eefddc4d4fb&utm_content=go_1097955555_55760863587_256681095323_aud-537409439212:pla-295462056867_c__557883433&gclid=Cj0KCQiA6JjgBRDbARIsANfu58FUe_3rIyGYA2vZdBPz6V-mUlJIHXwo3TtGMv8uSxMzLNh9qkod4isaAk7pEALw_wcB
I would love this party game.
Also, I suggest unmounted dressage tests and unmounted handy hunters (the old-timey kind with actual obstacles). Unmounted trail class.
Or the above, riding stick horses.
Agree. Sorry but if this is mostly an adult party, I’m not sure about the adults you all know, but the ones I know are not really into games. We can barely tolerate bridal and baby shower games. Most of us in my circle would just like a nice cocktail and some good nibbles.
Once upon a time, I did watch a Martha Stewart show where she decorated a Christmas tree with a bunch of cookies which party-goers would take/eat which is kind of cool.
If games are a must, maybe equine related charades or pictionary.
Think pony club.
Name that Bit (guarantee, a lugging out bit will get some blank looks)
Name that Breed…get some photos of the odd ones Ahkel-Tekke, Brabant, Curly etc…not the common guys.
Who’s in the Salami…actually, almost every Italian salami will test positive for Donkey DNA…that’ll get some “ACKING!” started.
Horse Quotes…Get some good ones from Black Beauty…
Horse Names…Name the movie/book: “The Pie”, “Traveller” etc.
Can this be true???
Yes, it’s true. The shipment and bad treatment of donkeys being shipped to Italy for meat gets a decent amount of bad press in Europe. Horse & Hound magazine has stories about it.
Good heavens. I really had no idea.
Thanks for all of the ideas. I’ll pass them on. We do have an indoor available, though it’s unheated and below 20 degrees at the moment.
Also agree.
The barn parties I’ve helped put together, we had a cookie decorating station, a table with holiday coloring pages + markers and crayons, and maybe a beer pong table and a Euchre table (Euchre seems to be mostly a mid west thing, these parties were in Ohio). Small group activities that are purely optional and people can come and go from them throughout the night are the best for such parties, IMO.
Hammerschlagen. If you want a horse twist - use horseshoe nails.
