Barn Windows

Anybody have suggestions on somewhere to get reasonably priced barn windows for in the horses stalls? Only caveat is they need to be black as we are going with a dark colored barn.

Do you need barred-type windows for placement within the horse’s reach? Or will the windows be going high up on the wall? Using them for just light, or do you want them to open for ventilation as well?

Bar type - Will be in the horses stall.

in the old days it was common to have sash companies everywhere that would build to order, these days there are still some such as this

I suggest you look for a Sash and Window manufacturer that is local to you.

If custom built, you may want to include tempered glass or use a polycarbonate (I used Lexan since I had it) in place of standard or double strength window glass

You really want dutch doors or windows with big grids. I’ve seen both. Our builder uses Silvercraft out of Indiana and they are built strong and beautiful.

Thanks - We’ll check them out!

@Horsehusband Were you building a barn? Here’s their brochure.

Where are you located? I have some Marvin windows that were put in my barn right before I bought it, and have since replaced with dutch doors. They are now sitting in my hay loft.

(I still laugh at Marvin windows in a barn!)

Architectural salvage yard near you? One of my favorite sorts of places. Of course their windows would near some modification to protect the glass and horse!

This is a barn in the area that also used Silvercraft (pretty sure) and put in these dutch doors with a window type option including grids.
