Barns around Deland FL for volunteer worker

Hi all! I have a coworker who just moved to Deland, Florida, and is interested in getting back into horses. We’ve worked together closely over the last two years and I’ve shared pics of my horses and horse adventures, and she’s interested in finding a place to just start by spending some time in a barn atmosphere, helping out/volunteering. She’s 31, responsible (she does HR/oayroll for our company) and one of the kindest people I know.

I told her I’d reach out to see if anyone had any ideas for a friendly, low key place, maybe with school horses that could use some extra attention. I don’t think she’s looking at actually riding at this point, just getting experience handling and being around horses.

I wish she were still local or I’d recruit her to groom our schoolies and clean tack but she’ll be in Deland for at least 6 months to a year.

Let me know if you have any suggestions on places in the area. She doesn’t have any preference as to barn type but since I do eventing of course that would be my first pick.

Thanks!

If your friend is interested in volunteering at a mid sized dressage training facility she should google Bryan Dressage. They are located in Eustis – about 30 minutes from Deland. Its run by Todd and Becky Bryan - great dressage trainers and very nice people. For Eventing she can look into Rocking Horse Stables in Altoona.

Your friend might have the best luck by looking for some type of rescue or therapeutic riding center. Most of the well run facilities of that nature have a program so volunteers get training and supervision.

Thank you!

Good idea - thank you. I had a work call with her today and she’s excited to get start the process of reaching out to folks to see what their needs are and if she might be able to help.
