Barns in North Texas with a solid trainer

I’ve been looking for a barn to move my young QH mare in the Richardson, Plano, Allen, Lucas area. Though I’ve found several online, it’s so hard to tell from just one visit whether or not it’s a good program.

I’m looking for some place that can provide a great western trainer (either reining or stock horse background), but I’m not super picky as long as they are good. I would be riding in the evenings after work, so someone to ride my mare on days when I get held up would be nice.

Coming from a h/j background, I know the ins and the outs of the h/j industry in north texas…but I feel like a total newbie in the western world here!

Does anyone have any recommendations? Heard anything good about certain places?

PLEASE help!

I would go to many western horse shows of all levels, and watch for trainers and check out their horses and students. Listen to them in the warm up pen, then stand where you can watch whatever trainer while students are in the ring. See which one seems to have the qualities you are looking for and the students who reflect the type of riding you’d like to follow. Then go up to chosen trainer and ask for a card. Might not be in your area, but they amy also have a suggestion. Then you can go hunt down THAT trainer and watch their students…might take awhile but you get a better pic I think at a high stress event at the kind of person and teacher the trainer is.
