Barns near Augusta GA / Aiken SC

We will be moving to Augusta this coming July. Does anyone have any recommendations for good boarding in that area? Would be open to h/j full training situations OR small boarding only locations. Thanks!

I don’t know of any in Augusta, but you will find a lot of full service barns in Aiken.

There are tons of event barns, all around barns, dressage barns and more h/j barns, too many to list. Depends on your budget. Welcome to the area, it really is horse heaven as there is something almost every weekend to do, especially as we head into the winter season.

If I could find a boarding facility with good footing, some jumps and turnout in Augusta I’d be thrilled. Something maybe around $600ish would be great. Don’t know if you or anyone else has any recommends on facilities like that. My mare is pretty low maintenance so I’d go ride a few times a week just for fun.

Augusta is still kind of a struggling city and doesn’t have the money that Aiken does, so there aren’t the horse facilities there like in Aiken. I’d suggest living on the South Carolina side if at all possible.

A lot of the premier places are more than $600 a month, but the amount of equestrians in the area means it’s actually pretty easy to find a private facility to board at that you would have access to top notch facilities.

Another option is boarding your horse at stable view. It’s too far if you lived in Augusta, but the facilities are the nicest in the area and the cost of (dry board) was really a good deal IMO even if you have to hire someone to do the work.

You should consider living in Aiken and commuting to Augusta rather than the other way around. Aiken is much nicer area and much of the training/boarding farms are on the south side of Aiken of the east side of Aiken.
Look in the Beech Island area. There may be a few private places there. That would be a short drive from Augusta.

Also look in the Vaucluse and Trenton area. That would also not be a bad commute from Augusta.

Unfortunately we have to live on the GA side as my husband is in the military and will be stationed there. But I don’t mind driving 30min to an hour. Where we currently are my horse is 2hrs away so anything is an improvement at this point.

I plan on driving around and looking at places once we get there but it’d be nice to have one or two barns to get the ball rolling. Once I have one contact then I can ask them for another and so on and so forth.

I used to keep a horse with Tina Pondy in Appling GA. It’s just west of Augusta on I-20. Nice footing, lights, 2 rings, bit of trails. Not a ton of traffic through. Rustic but functional if your horse can turn out in a group. Her # was (706) 831-2543. It’s been about 5 years since I saw her place, so do your research.

I lived in Martinez for a bit over 3 years and boarded my horse in Appling. The barn I was at is now private and no longer accepts boarders. I agree with the others, I would really try Aiken. Appling does have Tina Pondys barn if she is still taking boarders. There is hidden forrest right in Augusta. I will reach out to my friend and see who else she might know. I 100% understand the struggle of being a military spouse and traveling around with your horse.
