Hi everyone, I’m starting at UVM in the fall and I’m looking for a hunter/jumper barn to board my horse at near Burlington, VT. Does anyone know of any good barns near here?
It looks about a year out of date, but the UVM Equestrian Team website is here:
https://www.uvm.edu/cals/asci/uvm-equestrian-team
and here: https://thelynx.campuslabs.com/engage/organization/equestrian-team
If they still train at Imajica, you may be able to get some info from it:
I also like the name of Steeple Ridge Farm, about 10-15 minutes from UVM:
https://www.steepleridgefarm.com/
I Googled hunter jumper burlington vt
Its been probably 8 years since I worked at Imajica, but at the time Madeleine always a few of the team members’ horses boarded there. It wouldn’t hurt to ask. Its a nice facility with lots of turnout time. No idea what her rates are, though.
If you’re interested in self-care, the UVM Horse Barn Cooperative (https://www.uvm.edu/cals/asci/uvm-horse-barn-co-op) is an incredible program!
If not, I have heard great things about Alice Joy at Hemlock Hill in Shelburne. Imajica is also a nice place with great care. Others barns that may be of interest to you are Juniper Knoll in Jericho and Merry Mount in Stowe.
Feel free to PM me; finding barns in this area is challenging, especially if you are looking for a place with good quality turnout.
Depends a little on what you’re looking for, but Steeple Ridge is what comes to mind for a H/J place with a show program. You can PM me for more info, I used to live in that area.
Didn’t whatshername who owned Steeple Ridge sell it awhile back? I didn’t know it was still operating as a show barn.
Annie Dotoli? Or farther back?
Mindy, the owner of Steeple Ridge, did sell a while back. I’m no longer in the area, but my impression is that the new/current owner is operating a boarding, lesson, and local show business. I don’t think they’re an A-circuit show program, but most barns in that area aren’t.
I don’t believe that Summerwood is operating in that area any longer - Sarah Ki Rice was the trainer/owner of that program and she moved South years ago. I’m guessing that another trainer has moved into that farm, though.
Fox Horn Farm in Charlotte (down the road from Steeple Ridge) is another to look at. I have no idea what the program there is like now, but they were around the local circuit quite a bit when I was in the area.
OP, the local hunter/jumper association is the Vermont Hunter/Jumper Association (VHJA) - browsing their website and show schedule may yield some more names for you.
Mindy whatshername? Looking at the website looks like she sold it back in 2016.
summerwood became hemlock hill.
Long-time lurker, first time poster here. I rode with Mindy Hinsdale at SRF through high school. She sold in ~2016 and is no longer in the area full-time. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the facility if it fits your needs.
OP, depending on what you’re looking for, I would also recommend StoneHaven - I’m not sure if Tara still maintains a southern facility, but the Milton barn is quite nice and a fairly easy drive from UVM up I-89.
Sprucewood stables in Colchester is a closer option, as is Cottonwood in Winooski. In the opposite direction, Country Cedars in Charlotte always had horses out when I hacked by with my rehab guy, and the dirt road goes on forever!
Best of luck at UVM!
