Barns near Long Beach, CA

Hello everyone!

I am considering a move right now, and testing out the feasibility of riding while living near Long Beach, CA.

Is anyone familiar with the area and could provide some context?

Great care and minimal commute are big for me, but aside from that my list of demands are small. I don’t necessarily need an in-house trainer, happy to do it myself. I am not looking to ride on the A’s (need that income bracket to catch up, LOL).

I have reviewed this thread (https://www.chronofhorse.com/forum/forum/discussion-forums/hunter-jumper/9803644-long-beach-huntington-beach-ca-adult-amatuer-jumper-barn-and-trainer-recommendations) and am curious if anyone has any update from the suggestions here or new places to offer up!

I responded on the other thread, but am still at First Field and still very happy. Parts of Long Beach are 5-10 minutes from the barn. One could bike…

Although we have people who ride at A shows, the barn has a mix of showing levels and the clients are regular people with regular jobs. Yes, some of us showed at the Oaks a few weeks ago, but everyone commuted from home (including the trainers) and most of us brought lunches. Many of our horse show plants were propagated from cuttings.

Feel free to ask questions here or by PM.

Rancho Rio Verde in Long Beach is also a great choice. I highly recommend David & Lisa Wall. http://www.rrvridingclub.com/

Thanks so much guys! If I take the offer, I may PM you individually. More suggestions welcome as well.

The only other one I can think of in Long Beach, aside from small backyard-type places, is Lakewood Equestrian Center (http://www.lakewoodcity.org/about/mapsinfo/profiles/equestrian.asp). Sandie Mercer (https://www.facebook.com/Sandie-Mercer-Stable-115853925140452/) operates out of there.

I just PM-ed you!

I used to ride at Lakewood with Sandy, I helped with her ponies for her while I was living down there for school. I brought my mare down there, it’s an ok place, but there’s minimal turn out (and you are the only one responsible for t/o), and the feed is so/so. There is a lesson program, for very beginner type, and a dressage trainer, if i remember correctly, and of course this all could have changed.

I then made the switch to Huntington Beach Equestrian Center-- total A circuit barn not what you’re looking for and way too far a drive, but I really enjoyed riding for one of the trainers there and help with her horses.

A huge thanks again! This has given my mind some peace.

My experience living in Long Beach is somewhat dated (1995-2001) but when I l loved there (Belmont Shore) I rode at the OC Fairgrounds. It was about a 30 mins drive back then?

Thanks! Belmont Shore seems to be a very hip area these days!

Yes, it was a great place to live! I was down on the peninsula back then. I miss the beach, but I don’t miss how crowded So Cal was! Good luck with your move!
