Barnsby dressage saddle question-

I am currently borrowing my trainer’s Barnsby AVG saddle. I love it, and it fits me as well as both of my horses (who are very different shaped). We found a Barnsby AVG Anky Bonfire dressage saddle online for a good price. IS this the same saddle- or different? If different how?

Also if anyone knows how Barnsbys run in terms of tree width, I’d appreciate feedback. My one horse as an Albion SLK wide and the other is the one we are looking for…Trainer sells Triologys and uses a med wide on him. He’s 6, in rehab and filling out, so I would think a med wide to a wide for him.

Any general thoughts, feedback or experiences are appreciated. LOVE the Triologys too- but $4k new or $2k used is not in my budget after all the vet bills on the 6 yr old! Thus, our budget is max 850-900. The Barnsby fits the bill for comfort, style and price range, but are not easy to come by.

I have a Barnsby Luxus XW, I’d say their tree sizes run average to maybe slightly generous, at least I would say that is true with mine. Exceptional quality just never very popular in the US. I bought mine new in 2000, still have it and it looks great.

I adore Barnsby. Miss them now that they are no longer. When I first got my now since past Walker, I saved for a coveted Barnsby cutback show saddle. I don’t use all that much any more, but I will not sell it. It’s gorgeous and I do love it for showing. Just me, I also like to have something not a lot of people have. The ‘diamond in the rough’ so to speak.

I did end up getting the saddle my trainder found. I hope and pray it’s not too wide for my guy. I’ve heard everything from ‘generous’ to more narrow. The model I got is the AVG Anky Bonfire dressage saddle. $850.00 in excellent shape.

PLEASE FIT.

I also think the Barnsby saddles run generous in tree fit. I’ve had both a dressage and all-purpose, loved both of them! They were comfortable too, although I admit the Albions are MUCH more comfortable to me. Both are high quality though!

Ideal Saddlery bought the Barnsby patents, so keep an eye out. They may revive popular models under a different name. I think they have already started remaking the (Barnsby) Schockemohle.

Good to know, thanks. There’s something about the name and history you can’t buy though.

Got the saddle today. It’s like new! Excited to try it tomorrow. Now that I have two Barnsbys, I’m holding onto them.

I have had three Barnsby AVGs, one of them a Bonfire, all made in different years and all slightly different from one another. I loved them all but sold two of them and the other is for sale now, all because of fit issues. Two were too small for me and one doesn’t fit any of my horses. One of them I bought at a garage sale for $100 and I sold it for alot more. Great saddles and worth holding onto if they fit. I do see them for sale fairly often. A #5 tree is great for a sausage horse.

I have a Luxus too, and it is a lot different from the AVGs, flatter and wider tree even in the same tree size.
