Apparently the horse had alley issues (didn’t want to go into the arena to run barrels). So this “trainer” decided to place some type of electrical prod under the saddle pad. Obviously this just confused the poor horse who starts violently kicking out.

Some of the comments have said that someone standing by should’ve grabbed the horse or grabbed the girl off. But I do think that could’ve been dangerous.

Have you ever seen such blatant abuse in public? How did you react?

Nothing about that says ‘training’ it’s pure abuse.

Can’t help but wonder how shut down that horse is…if you tried that shit with Chuck, then I feel that you would still be waiting to land he would have thrown you that high.

As for getting involved, difficult, looked like a dangerous situation, where anyone could have got hurt. In that situation getting video evidence and taking it to Steward, Show Office, Judge, who ever would appear to be the safest option.

I wish someone had walked to the mare and taken her by the bridle. That mare was not going to walk toward the arena. With the mare in hand, someone else could have taken the other side and backed the whole shebang out of the pen. Ok knocked down the pattern. Turn the lights off. Something. However…this gal is local to them with multiple arrests in her history…I would wonder if they are afraid of her at least a little. I think they called the cops but she got out of their before they arrived

Unfortunately that could have been quite risky: horse could have easily reared and struck out, or flew backwards to avoid the person. A horse in that state of distress isn’t going to be safe and responsive. As it wasn’t a recognized event, they didn’t have stewards to take official steps, so I think calling law enforcement and videoing was probably the best action steps they had available to them.

Have you checked the validity of the post? Who is the person in the video, who does the horse belong to, and how do you know there was a device laced under a saddle pad? Or are you just believing it as gospel truth and spreading it without any verification of accuracy?

It has been verified by people who were there, yes.

She is Stacie Soape. she is called by name in the video.

In several frames you can see the jigger device under the pad.

I understand that completely. The mare could have also flipped and killed her. I have stepped in to deal with drunks, abusers, horses hung up in panels, horses hung to gate latches by stirrups. Don’t go out there in flip flops, no…but I wish for the horse and overall safety that someone had stepped up.

The horse apparently has an arena record at that facility (with previous rider). Police were called to the event.

Is that reach back with the right hand in order to activate said shocking device?? I see reach back, kick out, reach back, buck and when both hands are on the reins the horse is uncooperative but not acting out.

It would have been positively dangerous to attempt to assist if the rider were still activating the device and she only seemed to stop when the panels were falling down and she had been ordered off the horse by a male voice which I would assume was a gate guy. I could never hear what the woman on the PA had to say.

That was horrible.

She deserved arrest and prosecution and likely calling the local police was the best alternative, most of these events aren’t sanctioned and are loosely run.

Gawd, that poor horse

Gotta say, though, it’s really refreshing to see a video like this where the people standing around are pretty much all telling the rider to STOP, get OFF THE HORSE, knock this shit off. How many times do we see stuff like this where no one is saying anything? Or worse…people are in support of the abusive trainer? :no:

Is that why she keeps reaching behind her ? Looks like a beautiful , intelligent horse who is soured now. I had to laugh as she decimated the arena fence. I hope she didn’t hurt herself kicking though.

I wish she had dumped her rider. Just punishment.

You can have someone lead the horse in but I’m thinking this horse has had a long history of issues going into the arena and that method probably doesn’t work anymore for her.

But I can’t understand how you sit on a horse and shock the crap out of it while everyone around you screams at you to stop and you just. keep. doing. it. Ughhh that poor poor mare. She needs a new job, and rider.

Maybe I just don’t know enough about barrel racing, but is it common for a horse to not want to go do the pattern?
If any of my horses new that they got to run as fast as possible in the arena I think it would be hard for them to NOT gallop out of that shoot.
I haven’t ridden a horse who didn’t want to go in the ring to do the ‘fun’ thing since I was riding ponies.

A handler may lead them out into the alley, then let them go. The horses that are really up for it are often bouncing in place to go, though some will jig or even walk until they are cued to go. So yeah, they can lead them a little way, but not all the way into the arena. In terms of being competitive, they probably wouldn’t be able to generate as much speed if they didn’t start running until they were in the arena.
