Just curious to see how many barrel racers are familiar with what it is and what excersises do you use to encourage this?
What exactly are you referring to?
You’ll have to be more specific.
Well my gelding gets a little front ended sometimes when I check him before his turn… That doesnt set him up to use his pivot foot properly, and can cause the hind end to “blow out” around the back or a wide turn in general. & as barrel racers we know how important every .001 second is.
So I like to do exercises that encourage him to engage his hind end when he feels me start to pick up on the reins. Build muscle in his booty so its stronger and easier for him to use, im asking a lot of him out there! Backing up hills, figure eights on a fence line, working on our verbal WHOA and rate point at the barrel. OR do the opposite and work on front end and extension if the horse collects up too much.
Because after a decade of barrel racing he knows where to rate & what to do, but I still want him to listen to my aids especially while going full speed!
