Bartville harness 5 way breastplates

Question…
I am going to get one for Christmas (YEA!!!). Anyhow I know that the bridles run a bit small. With fellow COTHERS I ordered the right size for my cob pony. Now I need your help again. I do horse trials & hunt too. I am wanting a 5 way. Which one, the one with elastic sidestraps or without. Also which size horse/cob or oversize? My mare is a Quarter Pony is 14.2 hh. The bridle I ordered was horse sized with with Cob bridle cheeks & it fits wonderfully. I really don’t want to go through having to send things back!
Thanks in advance!

We’ve always used the 5 way with elastic. The elastic gives your horse’s shoulder room to move, especially if they make a BIG move. Our Huntsman is pretty adamant about using the elastic one, but I’ve seen both the solid leather and elastic one in our field.

I use the Bartville non-elastic 5 way on my cobby built, 14.2 Connemara. The cob size fits her very well though I did have to add a hole or two on the strap the girth goes through.

Their catalog does a good job of showing dimensions for the strap goods. If you don’t have a similar breastcollar you can adjust to your horse and measure, it wouldn’t be difficult to manufacture something from string to compare to their size measurements…

Definitely check the measurements in the catalog! We have the hunting style ones, no elastic and not the five way, and we love the leather and workmanship, but the piece that is the base of the “Y” is too long on both of ours: we needed to have the buckles moved. If in doubt, call them and see if you might need a custom sized one.
