Bat house

So, I have several bats that roost on my 2nd floor deck. They were getting in the pot/can lights, but I put covers over those. I was just worried they would figure out how to get in the attic and not get out. Now they roost in the corners of the roof. And leave droppings…

But, I don’t mind bats, they never bother me and they eat lots of mosquitoes. (Not enough!). I am thinking of putting a bat house on the side of the house. Has anyone had experience with a bat house? Any thoughts? Pros? Cons?

Thanks.

We have a couple on the back side of the garage. Just put them on a high flat wall where you don’t mind the droppings falling down. (At least here we can’t put them up in trees, or the rat snakes will get them.)

We have two bat houses and we’re super happy with them. They’ve become something of an event when we have people over … pull out the lawn chairs and sit with a bevie to watch the flying of the bats at dusk as they depart! And if you’re up early enough it’s equally cool to see them return home at dawn.

Just make sure the bat house is installed on a warm side, south or east I think? As far as droppings, they fall to the ground and I don’t even notice them.
